Was out on a Sunday drive with my wife last week and the drivers window suddenly stops working, and of course it was half way up when it quit. (Seems like every time I take my wife out in the Vette something goes haywire, last time it was the clutch pedal sticking to the floor) anyways did a bunch of research on here, tried all the little tricks I read about that may get it working again, nothing worked. Came to the conclusion that it was the window motor/ regulator assembly. And here is where I took a wrong turn, took my car to the dealer to see about a fix. They did a good job on my new harmonic balancer (oh ya had that problem too) install so I thought what the heck how bad can it be? Turns out I was right and the motor went south, they were willing to give me a break on labour and parts, problem was they wanted $500 for the regulator/motor! And this was with a parts discount! looks like I may be trying this repair myself. so where is the best place to get this part? I was thinking about gmpartshouse. There must be others? But I don't have a lot of experience with many online parts suppliers other than corvette central. I would like to use GM parts, kinda worried about cheap replacements giving out after a short period of time. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
I was last in your shoes a few months back and I just gave up after cracking a few items (Door Pull Plug, Door Pull Handle, Door Fastener, etc). I wound up paying the dealership to do BOTH REGULATORS and get it over with. $850 for both, parts and labor. At least this way, if they crapped out, THEY were on the hook for taking the crap back out again and replacing them. If you do it yourself, you can get the regulators between $85 - 250, but I would stick with OEM/GM parts, regardless where you purchase them. I've read the cheaper parts strain lifting the windows up because the motors are kind of weak.
One note to assist you or the dealership is, make sure you use masking tape on both sides of both windows and get the tape as accurate as possible to where the weather seal meets the door. This way, it helps with a perfect an efficient and near perfect realignment process. I taped the end of the glass at both ends with approximately a 6 inch strip of tape that wrapped around both sides at the ends, and one long strip in the middle on both sides of glass. Basically, 4 strips of tape per window.
My tech thanked me.

Thanks, and that's a good idea! I'm gonna need all the help I can get.
I used the thread on this forum to take it apart and fix it. First time I failed and bought a new reg/motor. Then didn't have the needed adapter harness for the new style part. So then took original back apart and fixed it again. This time no more issues. It works great now and it's been 6 months. The trick on mine was to sand down the round piece that the brushes contact. One I did that, it is great. Another note, mine was not dirty at all when disassembled so it was not all worn out. That method only cost me time and some sand paper.

you needed an adapter harness? what year is your Vette? a cheap fix would be nice, but i think i am going to replace the whole part. not looking to fool around with it again after the fix, hopefully. plus i also had the rattling window problem, which i believe is solved with a new regulator.

If you remove the door panel you can reach the motor on the regulator. The outer housing is held on with allen head bolts. I removed mine cleaned it up re-installed it and it worked fine again.
GM switched to a newer motor and it is a different connector. The connector comes with about 10 inches of wire on it and you have to cut your harness and splice it in. They made this change back in late 2008 or 2009. I found out the hard way by replacing motor/reg and connector would not plug in. If you do a search you can find the info needed for the part #. I ordered off of eBay for about $9. I ordered 2 so if I swap them in the future.

Have you checked all the fuses and the door wiring harness connector inside the rubber accordion tube?
Ide hate to see you replace the motor / reg when infact its something simple.

yes it was confirmed by the dealer that i needed the motor/regulator assembly. thanks for your concern Bill, always appreciate the help! i was just shocked that they wanted so much for the part! i had to pay for the diagnosis, and then i drove off. i sure hope i can do this myself or i will look pretty foolish having to go back there.
Update: Depending on year, you may require an adapter for the passenger side door. I forgot to add that as I needed the adapter for my 2000 FRC. Sorry I don't have part number handy.

the year of my Vette is 2003, and the passenger side works great right now! hope you didn't jinx me . am i going to need this adapter for my window motor plug? i'm only looking to change the drivers door right now as it's the only one that's currently not operational.
The passenger window on my 02 convertible would not come down. I pushed the down button hit the door a couple of times and magic happened! The window now works perfectly!!
