The red top battery that I had in my 2003 died, I think there was (is) a parasitic drain. When I switched out the battery, for some reason, the radio/clock stopped working. I checked all the fuses that are related to the radio, and they all seem OK. It isn't the theft-deterrent for the radio because it does not have LOC in the display; there just is no power at all going to the radio and clock. Can anyone suggest how to find out why the radio and clock are not working??
Thanks,
MichaelM
Use a DC Volt meter and MEASURE the voltage on the radio fuses. The fuse may be good but there is a possibility that there isnt any power getting to the fuse!
Others had suggested to check the power to the fuse box which I haven't had a chance to do. The radio and clock do not light up at all. There does not seem to be any power going to the radio and clock at all, totally dark. When I get the chance, I'll check the fuse (#5 I believe) to see if it has power to it. Thanks so far for everyone's suggestions.
I checked where the fuse goes (#5) and I get 13.11 volts through there (voltage fluctuates a little). Any suggestions? What's my next step . . . to see if power is getting to the radio??
I'd pull the radio and check for voltage there. Constant 12 and switched 12 need to be there with the key on. These factory radios, although not the best sounding, are pretty rugged.
This happened to me about 2 weeks ago, mine was an easy fix.
The **** on my radio adjusts the volume but will not turn the radio off and on. You have to pull the plastic **** off and push the metal stem on the radio to turn the unit off and on.
Summer is here and I was able to get the vette out for a beautiful Memorial Day weekend drive! After driving for about 30 minutes, the clock/radio suddenly starting working. When I parked the vette, shut it down and locked it up, the clock and radio stayed on! I can turn the radio off but the clock is still displayed and lit. That's where the battery drain was coming from. I checked and the clock display is draining the battery. Any ideas on why the clock/radio will not turn off when the engine is turned off, and the key removed from the ignition?? How weird!
My radio didn't work after battery was completely dead
I tried putting in a CD and I barely touched the front of the player and it started working like normal. Thank you all for your comments it helped alot
Check the Fuse: The first thing to do is to check the fuse related to the radio and clock. Refer to your car's owner's manual to find the location of the fuse box and look for the fuse associated with the radio or clock. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a new one of the same rating.
