Default Clutch and components question

My transmission will need to be rebuilt to fix a syncro problem and I had some questions regarding replacing other components that work with the transmission.

If the transmission is out I would rather replace any other parts that could potentially be a problem. My 98 C5 has 85,000 miles and has an aftermarket CAI and axelback exhaust (basically stock). I do not plan on adding any other go fast mods to the car. With that being said is it going to be any problem purchasing the z06 clutch kit as a replacement (will it fit)? Is this overkill and I should just stick with the stock c5 clutch replacement kit?

The Slave cylinder with throwout bearing and heavy duty master cylinder seem to be straight forward.

Your advice is appreciated.

check out gmpartshouse or other vendors for the GM LS7 clutch kit, well priced and will be plenty for your needs.

Definitely do the pilot bearing, remote bleeder and put some heat shield insulation in the tunnel, and might as well upgrade the shifter while it is out (or at least check the bushings). I am sure they will check your torque tube couplers while they have it out. Good luck with it.

Definitely stay away from the LS7 clutch if you are running anything close to a stock motor. Way too heavy of a clutch kit on a stock motor, and it will rob power and rev slower. The LS6(c5z06) clutch would be the best option. Eastcoast Performance has good deals on these kits. I have quite a bit more mods than you do, and the LS6 clutch is more than enough for my setup. You may also want to go with an aluminum flywheel depending upon your preferences.

A new transmission mount would also be a good idea. If you go with urethane, I would advise doing the motor mounts in urethane also.

Also replace the axle seals and check the side covers on the diff for leakage. There is a TSB on the leaky side covers.

Make sure the torque tube bearings are smooth and aren't making any noise or feel rough.

Plus the stuff already mentioned: torque tube couplers, shifter, tunnel plate insulation, pilot bearing, remote bleeder

LS6 clutch is an excellent replacement up-grade. If it were me, I would replace the master with a new OEM master. YES, replace the PILOT Bearing!!

Make sure that you mark the flywheel to the crank position so that it goes back in the SAME orientation as it came off. Its match balabced to the internal rotation assy.

If you replace the FLY WHEEL, make sure that you have the new one matched balanced to the old one or transfer the weights pins (if you have any) in the old flywheel

DO NOT add any insulation to the INSIDE of the tunnel UNLESS you screw attach it to the tunnel!!!! Trust me on that one!!

Here are som interesting post on other mods that you can do. I would make it a point to replace the differental output shaft seals!
