Default High-Flow Cold Air Intake question

If I install a high-flow cold air intake (SLP brand) on my otherwise stock 1999, do I need re-mapping or any other tuning modification?? Will I realize any actual gain from this??
Thank you for your attention.

Normally an air filter modification has little or no effect on PCM tuning however, you should examine your PCM Long Term Fuel Trims and see what they are before and after the installation.

Ideal LTFTs will be zero to slightly negative. If you do modifications and they cause the fuel trims to go positive, it will have a negative effect on you POWER ENRICHMENT AFR. Its usually rich from the factory. When the LTFTs are positive, The LTFT percentage positive will be ADDED to the WOT PE AFR and make it even richer. Rich AFRs do not make power.

How much HP do you think your new filter/housing will get ya?????????

Thanks Bill.
I think (hope) for 5-10 HP increase with upgraded air intake. Reasonable?? or delusional??
I need to find a good tuner locally, Nassau County, Long Island, NY - any recommendation??
Thank you again Bill

Very reasonable expectations. As for tuning, I would contact Chuck at Corvettes Of Westchester. I use him for all my tuning needs and everyone that I have sent there liked the results and professionalism they received.

Give him a call and discuss you needs and goals.

Now that you asked about tuners in the North East,,,There will be LOTS of recommendations!

PM Me if you have any questions..

Bill

I think you should plan out the modifications that you want to do, get them all done, then go in for a tune. Once tuned, you dont want to make anymore changes, unless its something big and worth doing another tune.

Intake and exhaust mods are simple and effective and with a tune can net around 20whp. I believe the power comes from the tune itself, but once the intake and exhaust are changed, that will play a role in the specific tune for your car. If you took the car in w/o the mods, it would still likely pick up 15-20 whp. But to change the parts after the tune would make it where the car was never at its peak. So do what you want, then get the tune.

If your car is an automatic a tune really helps even with mild upgrades.

Thank you gentlemen all.
I think my only mod will be the air intake. Car is 1999, has 43,000 miles. And put in my new NGK Iridium IX plugs with MSD wires, then get my tune (yes, it's an automatic), then drive & enjoy!!! (Oh yeah, and my Valentine 1 radar, hehe)
I'm a newbie (got my car 3 weeks ago), and my face is hurting from smiling so much!!
You guys, and this fraternity, are the best
