I don't like high shifter in my Vette and want to change it.
Somebody told me here in Russia that short shifter for T56 is very uncomfortable. I know that Magnum is not easy-driving gearbox and ready for some inconvenience.
Tell me please about short shifters and how much more difficult it became to switch gears. Or for example, first installed shifter was hard, then you put another shifter - it became easier.
A short shifter takes more effort to put into reverse.
I put the C6 shifter and **** into my C5.
It feels a lot better in the hand than the tall C5 and is tilted back slightly.
I have a padded console and the C6 was too short for my liking so I moved the **** up 3/4 of an inch or about 24 cm.
I drilled a 1/8" hole and used a short sheet metal screw to hold it.
If you use a C6 shifter and **** you can adjust the height to your liking using above method.
I run B&M Rippers in both of my cars, I love the short throw and the feel. There is a little bit more effort for reverse involved, but once you get accustomed to the different feel, no issues. I also did the anti-venom mod on both cars, makes them very nice for daily driving.
I used to have a BPP shifter (similar to a Hurst shifter) in my C5. Its forward/backward effort wasn't too bad but side to side was very stiff, even with the softest spring installed. I now use a C6 Z06 shifter and it is much easier to shift. The throws aren't as short but they are still quite a bit shorter than OEM.
It's just a question of leverage. The shorter the throw, the greater the effort required. I've got a MGW, and I've previously had a C6Z, and I'd never go back to it, but the MGW is MUCH stiffer. BTW, I grew up in Moscow... Idaho.
The custom shifter base made by Core-Shifters has the shorter throw, but is as easy to shift as the stock shifter. Shifter has the same throw as the C6 shifter, but appears taller because the boot is pushed down to show the chrome stick...
I saw a photo of a C6 shifter and it looked like the bolts for the boot are in a different location than the C5. When I change my shifter, do I have to keep the C5 boot?
And my C5 shifter does not have the shift pattern on it; it's one long curved piece with Corvette on it. How do I take my shifter **** off? Guess I can post a photo if needed...

Thanks.
The OEM C5 shift **** contains a "demon pin" to keep the **** from rotating. If you're still using the OEM **** and need to remove it, check out my removal instructions. http://conceptualpolymer.com/corvette_install.htm
Here's what my shifter and **** look like:
Virtually all aftermarket shift ***** for the C5 simply screw on and off but some utilize set screws and/or locking collars.
Regarding the C6 (Z06) shifter: If you buy one from TPS, the shifter shaft will be threaded to accept any C5 shift ****. C6 shift ***** do not thread onto their shifter shaft.
I'm done with short-throw shifters. They become very annoying for everyday driving. They are too stiff and too much effort is required. In a race, it's fine but living with one day in day out, it becomes unbearable. You may have some manufacturers claiming theirs is better than the competition but in the end, physics takes over. Less leverage=more effort. You can't get around that. Sure, MGW claims theirs is the smoothest short-throw shifter on the market and thats probably true. But, they do require a lot of effort to shift.
I, like many others, finally went with the C6 shifter kit and have never looked back. It is just perfect. Not too long and not too short. My tranny now shifts smoothly with very little effort. Some people say that the C6 shifter is too vague. I do not agree at all. Mine is very precise. But, keep in mind that I did install the whole kit including a new shifter box and I did align it properly. It is key to precise shifting.
I ran an MGW in my Camaro for a few years and loved it. It just takes a bit of getting used to. I've got a new one at home for the Vette, just waiting on the C6 **** and screw to come in.
It's all a matter of personal preference at the end of the day. I mean, I had solid motor mounts as well and there's still people that complain about poly...
My best as i have tried 3 different shifters.....best TPS mark sells them modified C6 z06 shifter (shifter plus base as well), and for 1st gear and reverse ease out.....do anti-venom mod...what is it?
anti-venom: passenger side of transmission waay up top, there is detent bolt (need 1/2" ratchet, 3" 1/2" drive extension, and 24mm socket shallow), take the detent bolt out and install some brass copper washers (thats a thick diameter bolt so get the larger engine drain plug washer get 2-3 in different sizes and thickness).....install only one washer and take a test drive and see how you feel, still too stiff in reverse or too notchy....add another washer......too soft or gear pop out from gear to neutral...than grind the second washer you installed and put back together....rinse and repeat...lol.
Obviously you have to jack the comfortably high........tranny oil wont spill once that detent bolt out, so no worries.
Shifter alignment is necessary.....read the following 3 times...hahah.
Shifter alignment: once shift boot and shift **** out, crack loose those 3 torx bolts 45 torx (do not touch or push alignment pin before loosening those torx bolts), push alignment pin down, and lock (gear must be in neutral), tightened those 3 torx bolts (i think 35 Ft lbs....check torque specs or just tight enough). pull pin up and Install the shift **** and see how gears move....
I tried MGW good at the strip but not so good in traffic, hunter or whatever starts with H....... that was brutally notchy need a lot aaa force.
I had an MGW in my Mustang. I loved the shifter but spent WAY too much on the Mustang trying to make it "right". Never got there.
I have a C6 shifter on the way. I think it's going to be fine, as my only complaint about my stock shifter is that the lever is waaaaay too long.
Out of the box the Corvette is everything I wanted the Mustang to be. Put a cam in to give it a little more low end boost, and with the shifter I think all I'm going to do is drive the hell out of it!!
I won't be home off the rig till the 4th, so that'll be the absolute earliest I can install mine with the C6 shaft and ****, and give some real info.
I opted for the billet lower box as well. Very excited to give this a shot and try it out. I loved it in my FBody. I can only imagine it being better in this Trans along with the billet lower box.
