Started my winter projects, on the list we have clutch, slave, LT headers and exhaust, intake, TB, heads, cam, chassis upgrades. Used to drag race forever and now looking to go road racing. Picked up my C5 for a steal. These cars are the best buy , period , for any hi performance use!
Started the clutch today, so far 4 hrs into it and got rear assembly removed. Torque tube to bell housing is next but that quick disconnect not so quick without a tool. Screwdrivers just are not doing it. Ordered the tool from amazon. Should be here Tuesday. Until then exhaust manifolds will be next.,posted couple pics of progress. Tips to make this clutch easier are appreciated.
was in a pinch on my first one and just made a tool for the clutch hose QD out of 16gauge stainless steel. still use it to this day. resembles an open end wrench but is narrow enough to slip in there.
Got exhaust manifolds off today, wasnt too bad. Welds on previous system someone installed were "special". Tool for the slave arrives tomorow so ill finally get to see clutch damage.
Another question, it looks like you are using a motorcycle jack to lower the cradle. Is that working ok? I was thinking of getting one like that from Harbor Freight for the job.

You don't need a special tool for disconnecting the clutch line, a 11/16" open end wrench works perfect. I've had mine apart more times than I care to count and it has worked every time. I also used motorcycle jacks to support the driveline when I take my engine/drive train out the bottom, they work just fine. HTH
Didn't try the open end wrench trick, that magic wrench arrives today so lets hope it works after waiting 2 days for it , and next day shipping. LOL. The motorcycle jack works great, it spreads the load so easir for assembly to balance on. Now that the exhaust manifolds are off, looking for some heads. Anyone know of some 243's for sale please let me know. I would like to try a pair of those with some porting, Only looking for around 430 rwhp. Should be manageable for my first year of roadracing.
Well got that tool and didn't help at all. Screwdriver was the magic trick. Lol. So got the rear assembly out. Wow lots of wires. Had to undo the brake lines as well, no matter new brakes swap coming anyway. Yep that thing was absolutely caked in mud. Previous owner had to live on a dirt road. So next step is removing old clutch and flywheel. Still looking for ls6 intake and heads if anyone has some to sell.

was running casting numbers this morn on my so called ls6 intake the previous owner said he put on. 12556333 is the part number on the passenger side. Pretty sure its an LS1 intake. Not cool.
Didnt Newer LS1's (like '01+) have the same intake as the LS6? Quite the custom X-pipe install they did there.. Also noticed the Bilsteins on the rear... atleast he didnt make ALL bad decissions about previous upgrades. Based upon a search the Partnumber 12556333 shows to be a 2000 C5 LS1 intake w/o EGR.. so not what you want.
Read this about the LS1 vs LS6 intakes.. Flat bottom and NoEGR=LS6 (even if it was on a later LS1) http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...-manifold.html
1997-2000 1255633 Ls1
2001-2002 12561182 Ls1/ls6
2002-2004 12573572 Ls1/ls6
The LS6 style intakes have a Flat bottom vs the older LS1 does not, you can see the diff in the pic.

So got the clutch out and on the bench. Turned out it is a LUC unit. Completly glazed over. Looking up inside bell housing area, should I replace rear main seal?? Just good insurance?? Ya the previous owner put billsteins on and Z06 springs , swaybars, and end links.
