So got whole assembly cleaned up today. Degreaser and power washer. 2 hr job and its 24 degrees out today. Came really clean, no longer looking like a logging truck rearend .
Pilot bearing removal literally was 30 seconds. Went down to auto zone and rented bearing puller. Piece of cake. Hammered new one in and done. Installed new flywheel and clutch assembly. The Monster stuff fit like a glove and was very complete with all the hardware.
Everything installed and put rear assembly back in. Just takes time to make sure it lines up and brake lines stay out of the way. Next project is bushings, new ball joints.
Thanks for taking all these great pictures. I'm planning on doing the same job myself this winter. How high did you lift the car to drop the drivetrain?
Ya clutch job actually took all week. Lol, I started last Sunday . 5 hrs on that day, and worked on it 2 hrs each day all week. So overall took 15-18 hrs. But I was cleaning also as I put back together.
Waiting on parts so started cleaning up parts I took off. The borla system was rubbing on the axle. Almost a hole thru it. Fabbed up piece of stainless and welded that in tonight. Found out previous owner actually put some healthy swaybars in. Ya that was rubbing too. So made a bracket to move ABS up out of way of swaybar. So new swaybar was ordered. Already had 35mm in front so ordered 24 mm rear.
Ya me neither, wonder if it was 97 year only? Looks factory tho. Although looks like a dumb location, there was a lot of brake lines running thru tunnel. Made the torque tube removal and install very tedious.
Still waiting for more parts do started the tunnel plate project. Got some 6061 alum 1/4" thick and started making a better piece. Should help handling and make chassis stiffer. Whole project was only 43 bucks and fun to just make it myself. Turned out nice, dropping off to powder tomorow.

You really should have opened up the torque tube and rebuilt the guibos. With that mileage and a life of drag racing. You will dropping the drive train again.... Soon. I think in 98 the ABS was in the rear too.
Didn't try the open end wrench trick, that magic wrench arrives today so lets hope it works after waiting 2 days for it , and next day shipping. LOL. The motorcycle jack works great, it spreads the load so easir for assembly to balance on. Now that the exhaust manifolds are off, looking for some heads. Anyone know of some 243's for sale please let me know. I would like to try a pair of those with some porting, Only looking for around 430 rwhp. Should be manageable for my first year of roadracing.
Advance Induction CHD can fix you up easily ...xzo

you'll be sorry if you don't do this while your in there..
