Default Forum thoughts ?

Been kinda thinking of getting a LSX 454 and replacing my LS1 heads and cam motor. Has anyone else went this route and if so your thoughts ?

I wouldn't like the extra weight (isn't that an iron block) and would go down a path with an aluminum block.

Well the way I look at it GM provides a warranty, and most engine builders I have looked at really doesn't have any type of so called warranty.

A buddy of mine from my hometown has an LSX 454 in his 05 GTO. Made 580 rwhp with 1 3/4 headers and believe he hit 600rwhp with 1 7/8. The thing pulls like a freight train. Don't like the idea of putting an iron block in in place of aluminum, but it can't be any difference weight wise than doing a pro charger right??

How about some of the other turn key motors they have in the GMPP catalogue? My dream was always the C5R block.

Well what I was thinking is that as the speed gets higher the added weight would help with front end being so light plus having added power.

Sweeeeeet! I'd pass because of the extra weight (60lbs?), but in the context of a 3200 lb car... Move the battery into the back and the weight distribution stays the same. Currently piecing together a 4.125" stroker/LS7 block. Had all the parts ready for balance and found they sent me a 4.100 crank instead. Stupid ebay!

Are you having a GM dealership install it? I would think it'd be hard to get a performance part warrantied with all the fine print and when bad tuning can ultimately kill any engine, as nothing is bullet proof...

Cool. Are you getting the one that sticks the tunnel ram through the hood?

I say go for the ERL 454 short block, put some good heads on it, might be in the same ball park, however you have a aluminum block with heavy duty sleeves.

That's what I wanna do.

When I got my ProCharger I weighed the box and all it was 70lbs now that extra weight is producing over double the HP of the stock 347.
And can be turned up with just a pulley change and tune, try that with a N/A engine.

Maybe they can stroke the block out to 550 C.I.

I went with a 440 based on an LS7 block. It made 600 RWHP off the bottle and has been rock solid since 2007.

On occasion when that isn't enough it makes a little over 800 on the bottle.

There are better ways to keep the front end down than adding weight.

I have an LSX 454 in my 99 vert thats puts down 635 rwhp on 91. The car has been lowered and with grippy 295 Toyos up front I can turn on a dime. I notice no penalty with the added weight of the iron block. The car handles great and with Eradispeed cross drilled and slotted rotors stopping is no problem.

I have a rowdy setup, but I never intended this to be a DD. The 454 provides a singular experience. The next step is going to be an E85 tune. I imagine I'll be close to 700 rwhp then.
