Default Does This Seem Right?

Posted this in the General Section also...trying to get back as many replies as I can.

Just purchased a Monster Clutch level 2 and related hardware for my '04 vert. Checked with one area shop (Orlando Florida area) for a price on the Labor to Install.....they told me $1350.00!! I do have headers on it. Does that seem right? Anyone who recently has had a clutch installed please chime in with the cost of labor. Thanks in advance.

And a Merry Christmas to All!!!

If you have no issues with a 1 1/2 hr drive North, call Jeff at EFI Alchemy near JAX. I'll bet they can easily give you better pricing and Vettes/Camaros/Firebirds/CTSVs etc are what they do all day long.
I've had occasion to get some work done there in the past. Good shop.

Thanks for the info LoneStar, I'll keep that in mind for sure. But was hoping to find something closer to home. There's got to be forum members in the Orlando/Volusia County area that have had their clutches replaced. Don't be afraid to put your 2cents in...I'd appreciate it.

They do good work and are reasonable. Had work done by them while living in Jax area.

I won't comment on price, but I did mine myself. I had to remove the headers and let them hang while I did the clutch and then work around them. This definitely added a lot of time to the installation. I also removed the FAST intake as it was getting too close for comfort when lowering the drive train.

Normaly theres a LOT more to accomplish than just the clutch.

Here are some things to chew on that you may want to consider while you have the drive train out for clutch replacenent:

-Addition of a remote bleeder system for the slave cylinder

- Replace the Master Cylinder

- Remove and inspect and or replace the Torque Tube Rubber Couplers

- Pilot bearing replacement

For the C5 owner that likes to play hard, there are differential up-grades that you can install that are fairly simple and dont break the bank. They are are not complicated bolt in up-grade that does NOT require ring and pinoin shimming!

At a mimimum, you should replace the differential out put shaft seals

The mods put a lot more dependability into the differential Check out these post:

PS.. I agree with vettenuts.. I do all my own work and save the labor cost.

Thanks Bill;
Not only am I having the clutch installed but I also purchased a new flywheel, slave, pilot and a one way remote bleeder. Already installed a Tick Master Cylinder. So you're saying that I should also have them replace the differential output shaft seals at this time as well? Is this something they'll be getting at when installing the clutch?

Well,,,,,,,,,, Who ever works on it, normally have to remove the ENTIRE drivetrain (torque tube, trans/differential/rear K member) to replace the clutch.

If they drop the rear K member down, the CV joint/output shafts are normally removed from the differential. (They pop out) If they remove them, its a snap to pry out the old seals and pop in new ones!

Seen too many reinstalled CV joint/output shafts leak after they are reinstalled on old seals.

Just saying.

Thanks for the tip Bill, I'm no mechanic that's for sure and appreciate your help/advice. I'll make sure I tell them to install new output shaft seals when the clutch goes in. I want to make sure I get this done right the first time.

Thanks again.
