Default Air bag module

I've done a lot of searching, and it seems that the only air bag sensors on a 2004 C5 are in the SDM module. Is that correct, there are no frame sensors? I am getting B0017, B0026, and B))51 codes, both H and C. At least one of the bags deployed on a otherwise minor accident (frt bumper and impact bar, no hood or fender damage) I bought the car "fixed" and am trying to sort things out (redoing most of them) I am going to send the SDM out for reflashing, and I need to know what else I need to do. Thanks in advance.

The SDM is the only sensing module. Have you read the FSM to see what it discusses about the system and your codes? I just briefly looked thru it. I had never read up on the system before. It will take me a while to absorb what they say and to better understand what you can and cannot do without their very specific testing tool.

Can you find out exactly what they did? Which bag? Who did the work? I am surprised only one bag deployed unless it was the passenger side and it was turned off.

I would try one thing. Turn the passenger bag OFF and then clear all your codes. See what codes return. I would hope someone with true experience will chime in. In the interim I will do the best I can.

first the codes....

B0017 - Passenger Frontal Deployment Loop 1 Open
B0026 - Driver Frontal Deployment Loop 1 Open
B0051 - Airbag Deployment Commanded

The first two suggest that the airbags were not replaced or replaced incorrectly. To have the deployment loop open means the bag has been fired or is not connected. If you have a FSM there are a series of test to confirm airbag presence and function.

The last is the general fault code set and stored in the SDM after any deployment.

I would strongly suggest not sending the SDM out to be 'cleared'. I have experimented in this area and the module comes back in less than stellar condition and the only thing that is actually done is the code is cleared to turn off the light. These modules store crash data which cannot be erased. So either hit the parts dept and get a new on or find one from a parts cars that didn't have the bags deployed.

I would first source a new SDM and go from there.

Thanks. I haven't got to the air bags yet, but I suspect they were not reconnected. I was having a hard time accepting that the SDM was the only sensor, but I guess that is the case. I'll try to get a new one.

Who did the work? You may have a lawsuit if the "repair was falsified" if you have documentation instead of he said she said, as much as I hate most such things.
