I know you have heard it all before, but I read the back of the Mobil-1 bottle and found that it wasn't really a synthetic. I went with Amsoil instead.
When I switched to Redline, I could actually feel the difference. Shifter was noticeably smoother and shifts required less effort. Have heard similar comments about Amsoil. Good luck.

Re: Mobil 1 ATF (01C5fan)
Thanks for the input, guys. I'm going to try Mobil 1 ATF tonight and see what happens. I called GM and they said it was the recommended synth oil, so, here goes.

The following is a quote from the Mobil1 web site:
I know you have heard it all before, but I read the back of the Mobil-1 bottle and found that it wasn't really a synthetic. I went with Amsoil instead.
Here is what they say on their web site
[Mobil 1 Products]
[ATF]
[ATF] This race-proven, fully synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) outperforms all conventional multipurpose ATFs. It provides an outstanding low-temperature fluidity and keeps the transmission clean. Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF also provides excellent gear shifting and protection under severe driving conditions.
What does it say to contradict that on their bottle?
I have changed the tranny fluid at 22k and used Mobil1 ATF as a replacement. It's an improvement - notable smoothness of the shifts. As to whether Mobil1 ATF is the best bang for the buck or the best synthetic ATF, I don't know and it doesn't bother me either.
I made the switch from the required Dexron lll to the Mobil One ATF. The drive train seems much smoother, the shifts are less notchy, the transmission doesn't rarely pop out of gear anymore, I get app 1 mpg gas mileage better. The price on the Mobil One ATF is even cheaper than Redline or Amsoil. Are Redline and Amsoil good? Absolutely! Are they twice as better as Mobil One for the money?
I run Mobil 1 ATF in both of my cars (see sig below). I had a failure of the snap-ring/thrust washer for reverse gear in my Z-28. They got so hot (running out of their grooves) that the snap ring yielded, an associate spacer was blued, and metal from the thrust washer actually plated onto the output shaft and the reverse gear face. The rest of the tranny was fine.
This happened over a long period of time (kept hearing a funny sound out of the tranny from time to time, gradually got more frequent, then went away at the same time reverse gear went on holiday). I attribute the high temp. capabilities of the synthetic oil to keeping the damage localized to just those parts that originally failed.
So, yes, I use Mobil 1 in my manual trannies, diffs, and engines.
The link you provided yields no access without ID and password!!! I would assume also that shipping is included in the price like Mobil One ATF? I take it the 5.70 per quart does NOT include shipping? or is that 5.70 off the shelf?
I used MOBIL-1 ATF in my 2001 6 speed. I', happy with it. An Email from a discussion I had with an Engineer at TREMEC said they had tried MOBIL-1 ATF and had "good results". Thats all he said, I don't know any more about it. He also said the Viper T56 uses a synthetic Castrol Syntec gear-oil (not ATF) as the factory fill, but he implied the the Corvette T56 tranny version is not designed for that.
