The BCM looks for current draw to turn the lights back on. When you cycled the mirror light switch, the BCM turned the lights back on. Any electrical disturbance will start the timer over again.
Give it another try and see if the under hood light does go out after 10-15 minutes. Mine turns off after 12 minutes but some C5s do it sooner, some take longer.
Another thought. If something in the car is turning on and off (like your seat motors or lumbar pump motor), the timer will never turn the lights off.

When I installed a LED underhood light it would not shut off with the timer. In fact when the timer circuit kicked in, it actually went about 1/4 dimmer but not completely out. If I opened the car door it went back on 100% bright. I eventually soldered a very small miniature light in line with the LED into the circuit in the underhood light assembly. It has worked fine with that small additional load in the circuit. I'm thinking Clancy209 might have a LED in that housing. Just a hunch, it could be something completely different.

I was reading the reply from above. I have an LED light installed for more light. Sometimes when every thing shuts off he LED gets dim. Somehow the LED must be affecting the way it should work
Note: I did this about a year ago and cannot remember whether I inserted that small bulb in series or parallel with the led. Maybe someone will chime in with a recommended resistor value that will work.
