Its called the RAP circuit and it times out usually around 12 minutes. Shut the car down with the redio ON and see if it turns off on its own after the RAP circuit times out.

Hey Bill,
Tried your advice everything turned off except the under hood lamp
•Turns Off Courtesy Light At Your Discretion
•Ideal For Prolonged Work/Shows
Turn off the underhood courtesy light with a simple flip of the switch and prevent a dead battery. Simply plug in the supplied harness, no cutting or splicing is required, mount the switch and you're done in less than 15 minutes. All mounting hardware, including the "Flex Guard" conduit is supplied for a "factory installed" look.
Look in the instrument panel fuse box. Relay 37 is the MONITORED LD relay. That relay controls that light as well as the IP Compartment lamps, the Vanity mirror lights and mirror lights. Check and see if that relay is switching.

OR follow the wire down approx. 18 to 24 inches and disconnect at the wire junction. It's a simple pull apart plug. Unplug for the show and connect before you drop your hood and go home.
Was about to say the same thing as above, it's pretty easy to reach and disconnect that plug. In fact, it's rare I actually want the light on when the hood is up. But if working correctly it will shut off after 10-15 minutes as others noted.
Funny thing happened yesterday. I opened the hood turned on the sun visor vanity lights, came back 20 minutes later everything was off
I said to myself :stopbeatingadeadhorse: maybe it's working OK. I put the sun visors up and the under-hood light came on again. Must be something loose some where. Easier to install new switch then to ring out wires.
Thanks for everyone's input and help.

Is there a regular bulb or a LED installed in that underhood lamp fixture?

I was thinking the same thing.
The BCM looks for current draw to turn the lights back on. When you cycled the mirror light switch, the BCM turned the lights back on. Any electrical disturbance will start the timer over again.
Give it another try and see if the under hood light does go out after 10-15 minutes. Mine turns off after 12 minutes but some C5s do it sooner, some take longer.
Another thought. If something in the car is turning on and off (like your seat motors or lumbar pump motor), the timer will never turn the lights off.
