Default Quick wheel bearing question.

I did some search and it appears to be that the front and rear wheel bearings are the same is this correct? i vaguely remember hearing no but cannot be certain and need a new rear.

They look similar but they are NOT the same pardner. Also keep in mind that there have been many people who've changed out the rear wheel bearings on their C5s. I'll be doing mine soon. Lots of debate about using the Chinese vs the USA made stuff. I'm sure you know which one is recommended. Don't scrimp. Get the good ones. Available at many places. Timken's were my choice. Many stories of the Chinese stuff having to be replaced very quickly.

It's possible they could be Chinese for sure as I haven't torn into the bearings themselves. However, for my proof, I submit exhibit A and B. I ordered my rear wheel bearings from the Rock site. Timkin 512153s for my 98. You can easily see the Made in USA on pic #2. So for sure, the bearings enclosure is USA, but as for the actual bearings inside, its really hard to know. And I wouldn't be surprised, but at least this gives me a bit of comfort.

It is hard to tell what is a good part any more. I went through this with my C4 wheel hub/bearings.

I tried a name brand from my local parts store (~$180 each) and they were Chinese bearings that failed in about 20k miles. I replaced them with the cheapest ones I could find (~$43 each)and they were still good 25k miles later when I sold the car.

I just bought some for a different C4 and got the cheapest ones I could find (~$27 each). They came in a name brand box and were marked as made in USA.

With as much outsourcing of components and assembly, it is tough to figure out who makes what and which ones are any good. I think you take your chances with any brand now.

Good luck.

The only difference between front and rear is the hole in the middle of the rear for the axle. Rear hubs will work just fine in the front. Some say that the hub will be weaker when used without the axle through it but many have used them without issue.

Since you're changing the rear, that doesn't matter in your case though.
