Default Seat Memory

Ok so when i push the unlock button on the fob and i open the door, The seat is moving all the way forward and upward. I cant even fit inside. Ill hit the number 1 which is programmed where i like it and it wont go back. The light will also be flashing. This morning it didnt do it but when i sat down and started the car the #1 light was flashing a few times more than usuall i believe. Never really noticed.

What should i do?

Pull your DIC codes and see if anything shows up. Sounds like something in the seat module may be fubar.

Also, you might want to disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes and see what happens.

Another thing to try is to set all the three memories to your preferred settings. When I first got my car, I had problems with the memory doing weird things, like adjusting the mirror all the way up. Resetting all three memories solved the problem. I've been told on the forum that it wasn't necessary, but it worked for me.

The memory function is real skitterish.

I get in and it moves to memory 2 with out even being asked. Problem is I am #1 and was the last person sitting in the seat.

Sometimes the easy entry and exit function works and some times it doesn't. No real pattern to it. Auto windows are not auto when moving down the road. Other times maybe. Do go down as directed when I am putting down the top.

Electrical gremlins like I used to have n my Mercedes Benz. Keeps you guessing and always entertained.

My seat memory is retarded too. Sometimes works as it should. Sometimes jams me all the way forward into the steering wheel. Often looses its memory setting.
I just live with it.

It took me a while to realize why I was having this problem too. The # on the back of the fob is linked to a particular memory setting. So set your adjustments and save to the # corresponding to that on that back of the fob.

Default Seat Memory Woes

I have read that Chevrolet can "flash" the seat memory??? I an assuming that is reloading the program for the seats. Has anyone heard or tried this. My seat will work fine every now and then. Most of the time it will move a fraction of an inch then stop, when I push the buttons on the door it will move about another inch then stop.

I use the same key fob every time and I still have the seat memory gremlins setting all over my lap.

There are 2 fob settings (look at the rear of the FOB). Try setting both setting to the same and see what happens.

Setting both memory 1 and 2 the same worked for me.There is also a third setting, by pushing both memory buttons at the same time. I use the third setting to move the seat back so I can get out of the car with the engine still running.

So far, setting both memories are working. But the problem I have is that you pay almost $70,000 for a CORVETTE and I expect all of the options to work correctly!! We SHOULD NOT have to disable, or just live with something that does not do what it is supposed to do.

Do you have both #1 and #2 FOB?? Look at the back of the FOB, should have a big number on it. $70K cars break too, ask and BMW or Mercedes owner.

My key fobs do not have a number in them. If you remove the "key" there is a tiny #2 on both keys. And yes $70,000 cars break but shouldn't we EXPECT more?

If you paid $70K for a C5,, SOMETHING IS WAY WRONG!

As far as memory goes, here are some things that you can try to get things back on track:

1. Clear and monitor all the Seat Module DTCs When something screws up,, "WITHOUT TURNING THE KEY TO OFF" read and write down the DTCs.

2. 12 VDC Battery Health- IF,,, you have a low charged or old weak battery; when you crank the engine, it can cause the battery output voltage to drop below the module low voltage safety cut off. The modules shut down temporarily (until the voltage comes back into spec.) When the modules shut down due to LOW VOLTAGE, iF the modules are programable (like the Seat memory functions and the HUD) the module will revert back to the FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS. IF,, you have to constantly reprogram stuff or your FOBS loose sync A LOT, your battery or a battery circuit connections could be at fault.

3. Ignition switch: DIRTY/BURNT ignition switch contacts can cause all sorts of weird issues in our C5s. If you are having all sorts of weird electrical issues, servicing or replacing the ignition switch can in some cases resolve them.

4. SEAT MOTORS and POSITION FEED BACK POTS: Inside the seat motors are position feed back potentiometers. When you set a seat memory position, the seat module reads and learns the resistance setting of the POTS and runs the motors to match the learned positions in order to find the correct seat positions.
When my seat went goofy, I ran the seat motors through ALL the motor positions from one extreme to the other (UP- DOWN - FORWARD AND BACK) several times. When I was done, I left it in the easy exit position.

From that point, you can program ALL your FOBS to the exact same settings to see if the memory function works properly. Once you know everything works properly, you can reprogram the memory of the second FOB to what ever different settings you want.

Same thing for the motors and feed back pots in the mirrors.

Hope this helps.

OH,, One more thing! My wife likes to play pratical jokes on me so, one of her most favorite jokes is to to program all the memory settings in my ZO6 to the DEATH SQUASH settings "SEAT ALL the way UP all the way forward".. Yea,, it works.

Make sure that no one is screwing with your memory settings.

Bill
