Hi. Unfortunately my c5 vette was recently broken into . The thieves knew that the alarm could be disarmed and the car easily entered by placing a screw driver under the door lock cylinder and actuating the lock rod . This makes the car think you are using the key and turns off the alarm . What I am contemplating is unhooking the signal wire to the alarm , with in the doors . Or possibly find a way to get it hooked up to the other lock rod . Have not had the door apart to have a look at exactly how it is set up yet . The idea is to allow the alarm to set and turn off with the key in the ignition , or with the fob , but not at the door. This way , the alarm would still sound , and a would be thief could not easily shut it down . Does anyone have any input on this ?
Hmm I thought the little black resistor on the key is what told the car its the proper key unlocking it. I would have thought the alarm would still go off.. Maybe not the case..

according to Atlanta corvette , and my allstate claims adjuster , what you have said is correct only for the ignition . Not the door lock . I just had my in dash gps ripped off . So that is why I started this thread . Maybe other vette owners did not know this either ! There has got to be a way to keep the alarm active when the door lock is used . Now it should be noted that if you have your windows down , reach in and unlock the door manually from the inside , the alarm will sound .
Totally possible. I've never done it but it would make sense just to remove the signal wire from the door lock. There isn't another lock rod in there to connect it to tho.
And the resistor in the key is only for the ignition. It is not read in the door.

Question ; does the bcm which really is the alarm , need to have an indication of the door being locked , in order to go into alarm mode ? And thank you for the input .

This is why I just skipped all of the problems and had an aftermarket alarm installed. Factory systems are too generic and easily bypassed.

That is understandable . And in some ways a bit simpler than modifying the oem alarm . However ,the whole passive alarm and remote combo on our cars from the factory , is just toooo convenient for me , and I am having a hard time letting go of that . However, crooks getting into our cars is very simple to do in stock form as well . Thankfully , I do have a little experience with custom work . And I have a plan . I have spent some time researching this issue ; My current thinking is to add in a motion sensor which can be tied in to the bcm at pin#n9 on the top connector , which should be a green wire . That is the same wire used for a ground signal in your door switch, which is also green . It is how the alarm is set or not . If a man were to disconnect the lock rod from the door key cylinders on both doors , the manual means of unlocking the door from the outside , would be inoperative , and would work only by remote .the door handle should still be useable for opening the door though . Then , I will add an external power/ jump post like used on big riggs .This will allow for a backup means of getting in if the car battery were to die . I would also need a backup key fob , just for insurance , in case it were to die . I know all this sounds complicated but in actuality it's not . I have used this same set up on my custom air bag'd chevy pickup since 2006 with no failures . Whenever the battery has died , I just hook a charger to the jump post , and voila ! Bear in mind that the truck has no door handles at all , and can only be opened via viper remote .There are no lock rods at all on the truck , so a slim jim will do nothing . Anyone see any flaws in this plan ? If this works out , I would be pleased for the other c5 owners to have access to this option .
