Default Wheel Alignment

Is the alignment spec the same for a Coupe or a Z06? I have lifetime alignment services from Firestone but they would only do factory spec. I would prefer custom spec but they would not do it.

I got the lifetime deal from Firestone as well. I got a factory alignment spec sheet and marked it up to show them which end of the (very loose) factory specs I wanted it aligned to. The result is very close to the Pfadt street specs. My guys didn't have any problem with that.

this was done with me sitting in the car at firestone

also it depends on the firestone you go to, mine will set to any spec i want, and, like i said, lets me sit in the car while they align it. this is useful for keeping specs straight.

if you're not in the car, those numbers all go out the window when you sit in it

Curiosity here, but what ARE the Pfadt street specs? Is there a link or anything?

Did you ever compare with you out of car? Specs will change a little or a lot depending on how stiff the springs are. I do both per customer request.

I've done it many times at my shop. Performance cars have stiffer springs. Usually only change camber around .05*. Luxury and average type cars can vary around .20-.30* camber.

My customers weigh all different amounts. Plus I've sat in the same cars. I weigh 215lbs. I do quite a few autocross cars.

Hey MRR23.....I've been reading some of these alignment threads before I take my '98 coupe w/F45 suspension in for an alignment this week. I've read of some forums that using shims or some type of washers is not too uncommon if the tech can't get the camber close to -.20 in front. Are they pulling my leg?? Do you use them yourself?

With my F45 shocks, which setting should it be set to before the alignment starts? I'm a big guy 315# and the only guy ever in my '98 and would like to be in the car during the alignment, so I'm trying to find a shop that will let me be in the car.

Thanks in advance......sure wish you were closer to Springfield, Mo this week to do my car!

Dennis

i don't see why they can't get -0.20 camber without having to shim the upper control arm. no i don't use any shims. i use the factory -0.25 camber with no issues.

shock setting has no bearing on the alignment.

car was designed for that camber number. if they can't get it there, then look for bad control arm bushings.

97-2000
front*
camber -0.25* +/- 0.50*
caster 6.50* +/- 0.50*
total toe 0.10* +/- 0.20*

rear
camber -0.25* +/- 0.20*
total toe 0.00* +/- 0.20*

Correct. But there is always a driver. It will be a minor change that won't affect the overall tire wear.

Looks like the tech took the extra few minutes to "get it right"!!

Kudos to him!! BUT, I have to ask....how does .02* of toe on each front wheel add up to only .03* total toe, when on the rear, .04* of toe on each wheel add up to .09*.

"New math"??

"New math"??
.015 + .016 = .031 rounds to 0.03 (.02) .015 + (.02) .016 = (.03)
.044 + .044 = .088 rounds to 0.09

It is not new math, it is rounding.

I totally typed that wrong... sorry.
That is what I get for doing to many things at once.
I went back and corrected it.

Thanks for the info.....I'm looking for the best camber/caster for the best tire wear. I got 50K out of my last set and want that again.

What do I ask for if they won't let me sit in the car? I'm a big guy and seldom ever has a passenger with me.
