Crack in front leaf spring. Is this normal? (pics)
Well I had the vette up in the air to change the trans and diff fluids. As I was looking over everything I found this slight crack in the front leaf. I dont know if this is normal or expected in these (Ive only had the car a month) but it has me a little worried.
The crack is mainly on the surface and maybe 1/8" deep at the mount. There is no evidence of it ever being scraped or hit, so it looks like it just came apart. There is some porosity in the middle of the spring from what looks like when it was molded.
If this does need to be replaced immediately, where could I find one for a decent price.
I would replace it. You need a replacement from a 2001 - 2004 Z06. The spring rate for the Z springs is greater than for other C5 front springs.
Check the parts Forum as they show up in that Forum for sale from time to time. Also check with Marc@Vettenuts.net a Forum sponsering vendor that sell Corvette parts
That's a great price! Jump on it!
When I bought my C5, it too had a cracked front spring - a little worse than yours. My front end sagged as a result, and I scraped on a lot of places than I shouldn't have. I replaced both springs with Z06 units even though mine came with the base springs.
Marc, I PMed you. Thanks everyone. This site has been great for a long time F-body guy like me learning these cars. The info on here has been priceless.

i had a spring like that on a c4 back in the day. over the period of a year more and more fibers started to separate. it never did fail but you could feel the loss of spring tension
for 115 from vettenuts i wouldn't even think twice about replacing it
You may want to look at the rear spring while you're at it. Even if it's not cracked, the spring rate on the rear may have degraded somewhat over time, so replacing both will keep the right balance of rates.
