Default Torque Wrench to Cover LS6 Build

I've been searching the forums lately trying to find info on a reliable and accurate torque wrench that would cover building up my LS6. I'll likely just be doing top end work, but in the future I may do bottom end work as well. Doesn't seem to be much agreement on the various forums as to what one torque wrench can handle the entire build. I already have a couple craftsman beam type torque wrenches, however I'm looking getting a good split beam from Precision Instruments. Judging from the torque specs I found on 'LS1Howto' the below wrench should cover my needs, but I just wanted some input before buying since I'm a college student on a bit of a budget.

Specifically it is the Precision Instruments C2FR600H which handles 100-600 lb.in or approx 8-50lb.ft. Link: http://www.torqwrench.com/tools/item...kCode=C2FR600H

Another option may be the Gearwrench 85052 micrometer type which handles 10-100 lb.ft. Link:http://www.tooltopia.com/gearwrench-85052.aspx however I am not familiar with the Gearwrench brand and whether or not they are reliable for an engine build.

Any input would be much appreciated.

I have 3 Craftsman, "click type", torque wrenches. One is a 1/2" drive for the nuts and bolts up to 150 ft/lb; one is a 3/8" drive for the nuts and bolts up to 75 ft/lb; and one is a 3/8" drive, inch pound wrench. These weren't "big buck" wrenches, but weren't the "cheapies", either.

I used to work where there was a "precision assembly" department, and there was a torque wrench calibrator on the premises. One day I brought all of my wrenches into work, and one of the guys in this area tested them for me. Surprisingly, they all were pretty accurate.

I have 1 Craftsman "click type" torque wrench in 1/2 in drive and 2 Snap-On "Click type" 3/8's drive. One for up to 75 ft/lb and one is a 1/4 drive for in/lb. The Craftsman is as good as the Snap-On brand accuracy wise

You should not get a ONE TORQUE WRENCH FITS ALL for your engine.

You will most likely need THREE torque wrenches.

One Inch Pound torque wrench 0-300 in/lb
One 0-150 ft/lb or a 0-100 ft/lb torque wrench
and one that can handle 250 ft/lbs

I have always rented the larger ft/lb wrench from Autozone (if you return it on their loan program, it cost you nothing) There are only a few things that need to over 100 ft/lbs on the entire car!

If you try to use a 0-250 ft/lb torque wrench to tighten a 28 ft/lb bolt, it for one, will be 1/2 drive and two, may not be as accurate as a 0-100 or 0-150 ft/lb wrench would be.

I have a 3/8" drive Snap On 0-100 ft/lb click torque wrench that works excllent.

I also have a 1/4" drive Snap On dial 0-300 inch pound and a 3/8" drive 0-600 inch pound click torque wrench.

I purchased all my snap on torque wrenches used and they are in excellent condition and accurate.

Good advice.

Also if you get a "click" type where you set the torque value always return it to 0 after use so the internals are not "loaded" during storage.

Bill you dead on and the reason you list are spot on I bought the Snap on Torque wrenches as they also do angle as you will find that some of the call outs are Torque to 45 ft lbs then go another 90 degs. And the Snap on torque wrenches will do this.
