You might want to rethink the cam upgrade over there, without a shop that has a chassis dyno and tuning software you probably won't like the car much when it's done.
Crap - no I didn't know any of that!
Told it was a straight swap - the workshop can tune it. they have a rolling road but sounds like it's far more than that
My mechanic knows his stuff so I'll run it past him tomorrow
Thanks guys - I was thinking that - great an extra 40-50BHP with little pain
How many LS engine does your mechanic have under his belt???????????? This isnt your run of the mill Small Block Chevy.
There are LOT of very different procedures that need to be adheared to.
For example: The LS engine head bolts are a TORQUE TO YEILD bolt. Its torqued to a specific low torque value and them its rotated (angle torqued) a specific number of degrees to acheive finial bolt streach and clamping force. Once you use the head bolts, you have to throw them away and install NEW ones. Same with the OEM Dampener bolt.
If you look in my picture, you will see that I have ARP HEAD STUDS installed. They are Far Far superior than the OEM Head Bolts and you can use them as many times as you desire.
Another sad fact is,, The head bolts on an LS engines are known to strip in the block. When you use the head studs, you SIGNIFICANTLY decrease the chances of that happening.
I have attached a C5 bolt torque guide. Proper Torque is very important on reassembly.

100% Unless you have a reputable shop that is capable of tuning it, you will not be happy! You'll have a rough running engine that will not make the power it should.
You may want to start another thread asking if someone has a similar set up as you, with the hot cam. They might be able to email you the tune file. Even if that is possible, you would need hp tuners software too download it to your PCM.
Thanks guys - really appreciate the advice.
I won't be installing the cam (yet) Replacing the springs first and then will find a tuner in the US to get a tune for it.

Good plan but you really need to find somebody over there that does it, canned tunes aren't always the best. If you had something like HPTuners software, I recall a thread where there are tuners you can send you data too, they whip up a tune, YOU install it and this goes back and forth a few times till you get the best tune you can get without a dyno. You have to drive some logging data to send I seem to recall.
