Default Reverse Lights

2002 Z06

I found another thread talking about the fuses and the reverse sensor switch in the trans.

The fuses are fine, the switch was replaced. It was dropped though, before it was installed.

Reverse lights still dont work in reverse, but when I lock on the key fob they work.

What else could it be? I guess first thing would be to make sure the switch actually works. After that, what else should I look into?

Fuse, switch, wiring, bulbs, ground. That's it..IF they work with the fob, you can eliminate bulbs and ground. The flash with the fob voltage uses a different fuse, make sure you checked the correct one for the reverse lights (21 in the footwell). Most of the time, it's the switch. If the switch shorts to ground, the fuse will blow. If it opens, the fuse won't blow, but the lights won't work. All that's left is a broken or cut wire to the switch, or back toward the lights. Have you had the drivetrain out and maybe broke a wire? That came up twice a while back.
My first troubleshooting would be to measure for 12v on the wire to the switch, then put the car in reverse with the switch on and measure on the wire going to the back. IF you have 12v going to the switch and none out, the switch is bad. If you don't have 12v to the switch, move toward the fuse box. Another guy had a wire chewed through by a mouse just as it left the fuse box. A voltmeter would help track down where it's missing.

Have you tried jumping the connector at the switch?

No, I havent. I was a bit hasty. Got the car on the lift at a buddies shop and just changed the switch. I knew it wasnt the fuses, I assumed (wrongly) that just throwing the new switch in would fix it. Of course, my luck, either its not the issue or I seemed to have another bad switch hahaha.

I need to get back up to the shop and put it on the lift. The drivetrain hasnt been removed. This car apparently sat for almost a year between Corvette World in Dallas and Houston. And of course this was an issue with the car when I bought it and they pretty much said sorry. Too bad. You just dont really think to have someone get in the car so you can check the reverse lights when test driving I guess.

In any case, thanks for the answers. I need to borrow dads voltmeter and check voltage to the switch. Make sure from the front to back I am good. Then I will know more. I was really hoping to not have to delve into more sh*t hahaha. Just wanted to replace it and it work. I should have known its a vehicle, and in my past experience thats not how it works. Never simple.

I really appreciate it.

The connector at the switch could also be corroded or have a bent pin or broken wire.
