Default help.

Looking to put a cam in my 01 automatic stock vette. What's the biggest cam can I put. Looking for that choppy sound. Gonna put a stall in a couple of months so don't mind putting car in neutral at lights. Thanks in advance

You are NOT going to be able to just slap a cam in your car and drive it..

You will need NEW:

Valve springs
Larger injectors
heavier pushrods
new lifter buckets
new timing chain
RECOMMEND new lifters+

MANDATORY=== NEW TUNE!

When you decide to get the new converter, you will need ANOTHER NEW TUNE!!

So,,,,,,, It is HIGHLY recommened that you plan for a ONE SHOT up-grade that will allow you to fix and up-grade everything at one time so you can tune the WHOLE UP-GRADE once!!

While you have the drive train out,, you are strongly recommended to change out the rubber TT Couplers.

So,, you can can see that this isnt a $300 up-grade.. Unless you plan it properly and do it correctly ONCE,, you will do it all over again.. Trust me!

You have a LOT of soul searching to do. This is just a VERY short list of all the things that you will need or should consider for up-grading!

Remember..The racers creed:
Cheep, Fast, Reliable! Pick TWO cause you CAN NOT have all three!!!

BILL

PS Been there, Done That! If I had to do it all over again, i would have gone FORCED INDUCTION!!

Do yourself a favor. Put the converter (and trans cooler) in first. Do not get the biggest cam! Get the correct cam for how you will be using it. There are some great running a4 cars without "big cams".

It is about the package. The cam choice will be different if you are not planning to change out the heads.

Bill Curlee speaks the truth. You have a lot of upgrades that need to or should be done when doing a cam swap. In addition to his list a new oil pump would be highly advised too.

I would recommend a Texas Speed 228R cam. It's enough cam to give you added power, and (since it's important to you) has a choppy sound.

Bigger cams may make more peak power, but suffer loss in other parts of the power band. So bigger isn't always better.

It will also help performance and sound if you have a full exhaust.
