My 2001 M6 is my daily driver with 190,000 on the clock. Each one of them has been wonderful and, now that I'm reaching retirement, I'm wanting just a little more out of her, just for fun - I'm not going to race, just drive more.

My budget is limited - about $5,000 total which obviously precludes major work. After reading about cams, headers, and various forced induction systems I have a question. With my budget and not wanting to increase mantainance beyond what stock requires, would changing out the differential from 3.42 ratio to 4.1 give me what I want? A little more spirited ride without any additional maintenance.

Thanks guys.

I feel for you. im approching the same situation.
4.11 rearend will make it like a jack rabbit and you gas will greatly suffer. if its sprinting you want than thats what i would do. ive driven a car with 4.11 and it was like screaming going down the highway. if you were to find other hot rodder in your area to ride with them you would know exactly what your getting into. google hot rod clubs in your area. Many others hope will give additonal advice. this is just my 2 cents. good luck may friend

I have the 3.90's in mine along with other modifications. I think the gears actually made the overdrive gears much more usable. Sixth gear on the highway will actually get up and go and at 65 mph my RPM is still below 2,000.

One other thought here, with that many miles your torque tube couplers are probably ready for replacement. Thus gear installation would be a logical time to get that done as well.
