Not a sound out of my Super Anatomico and Ripper. Solid
for more than a year now after re-tightening a month or so after install.
But, if you want a super solid setup, nothing beats a threaded ****.
jimman--I agree, it's the pivot mechanism, and it might be worse on a Z06 due to the coarser gear pitch, but that's just a guess. I used heavy axle grease in the ball/pivot joint....the kind that's thick and sticky and stringy. I think this helps to dampen some of the vibes, which is why the Hurst is silent WITHOUT the stock ****.
AFVETTE--Thanks for that input....you give me hope. It seems that the MGW **** is a very high quality piece, and for a mere $45, the best deal out there!! Indeed, this Hurst rattle almost has me going back to the stock POS shifter, so I can't wait until the MGW arrives (today?). As for the low mounting height....that's good, up to a point, until reverse becomes unobtainable unless you're a gorilla. After talking to "George" at MGW, he indicated that you don't HAVE to screw their **** down all the way, as the big, fat Allen setscrew does most of the work. He says it really locks the **** onto shifter, eliminating thread tolerance rattle.
MySea--that Super Anatom **** is very nice...I was jumping between that and a Combat until I went with the MGW.
Everyone--I have two stock shifter **** "T-pins", also known as a PIA-pin :p: that I'll sell for about 8 bucks each, shipped. They are unused. I bought 'em as insurance when I bought the Hurst, figuring I'd kill the original one. I did, but the MGW eliminates that problem, too.
Let us know if that works. Mine today was the worst it's ever been. Pasenger even asked what wrong with the car. If it was such a pain to exchange shifters, of which I don't think they will do, I'd try another. I just don't know how many times one can pull the consol out without sooner or later breaking something on it.
Mine doesn't, they don't thread onto the shifter, they have there own hardware that uses a rubber ring around the shifter and screws in the ****. Works great, doesn't rattle, is quite firm, and hasn't come loose on me yet. More than I can say for the B&M shift **** I had on it that used the plastic thread adapter.
In a word or 2: F-in-a it rattles. Installed the Hurst 2 weeks ago with a Momo Race Air , love the shift but hate the high rev rattle. Put the stock **** back on, no change for better or worse. Shift stops backed way out so they are not the problem. Will try the weights next. The Hurst is the problem. Rattle is an irritation but will keep the Hurst. So much better than the stock shifter that was akin to trying to stuff a wet noodle up a wild cats arsss when speed shifting 2-3. :smash: :(
All--
I will give a report on the MGW ****, under a new post, as soon as it comes in and I can screw that baby on there.
Guys with rattly Hursts--does it still rattle with no **** at all? Mine is dead quiet with no ****.
jimman--I also had someone ask me "Is something wrong with your car" because of the rattle. :mad 650 miles on an 03 and a passenger thought it was falling apart!! :cry
