Default 1st-2nd gear grind

My car grinds going from 1st-2nd gear, I can bypass it if I hold the clutch in longer between shifts,it only happens if I shift at higher rpms/shifting fast.
Thoughts? Clutch fluid possibly? Hopefully not a synchro.
Car is an Ls1 with t56 mn6 transmission.

If you hold the clutch in longer and it doesn't grind, it probably means your clutch isnt fully disengaging. I'd look at your slave cylinder, try bleeding it or the ranger method.

There are 2 ways to do a "true" bleed if the Ranger method does not help. One is the factory directed FSM method and the other is to remove the intake manifold for access.

I have a link that covers both at home if you need it.

This is an interesting bleeding method... seems simple and pretty efficient way to do it...

It's the synchro. You may be able to help it with a fluid change--the gear oil, not the clutch. Pennzoil/Valvoline synchromesh fluid can help, but doesn't work well at low temperatures; you may want to try half-and-half synchromesh and conventional Dex III ATF. Bleeding/flushing the clutch fluid is a good idea too, of course.

Took it to mechanic otherwise, they said it was the synchro which I (sadly) suspected. I'm just driving it like that for a while, since a job like that will be, what, $2000?+

I know you've been told it might be a syncro.

Though when you shift at high rpms does it feel like theres a wall going into 2nd gear? Does it do it in any other gear, Like 2nd to 3rd at high rpms? I had a similar issue with 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd at high rpms it feels like a wall when shifting and it sometimes would grind. I ended up installing a tick master cylinder and it cleared up my 1st to 2nd high rpm problems but 2nd to 3rd remained with hesistation getting into gear but wont grind whatsoever.

It could also be your clutch Master cylinder crapping out the easiest way to find out is to find a very lonely empty area and leveled surface put the car in 1st gear with the car on with the clutch pedal pressed all the way to the floor hold it and rev the engine to redline and take note if the car moves forward or lurches forward the clutch isnt fully disengaging. So your master cylinder would be going bad.

Of course they did... $2000 for synchro... vs $200 for a MC? He has to make a living....

Only happens 1st-2nd, no wall it just grinds and is difficult to put in gear.

Well,,,,,,, If it were ME,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I would drain and fill the trans with fresh ATF.

Order some AMSOIL Torque Drive ATF.

It could possibly eliminate the grinding all together. It did in my 98 MN6 Coupe.

The old fluid that came out looked like dark red metal flake paint and that was at 50,000 miles. Could be a very inexpensive FIX.. Order 4 Qtrs.. You will use 3.75 of the four qtrs. on a wet refill..
