The IGNITION SWITCH and the Key LOCK CYLINDER are two completely different parts.
You can remove your cylinder from the OEM switch part very easily.
You remove the switch from the car, put the key in the switch, turn it to ON and press a RELEASE tab on the barrel of the switch to release the cylinder. Re-installs very easily.
IMHO,, I believe that you are having a solenoid/starter solenoid wiring issue more than a ignition switch issue but,,, You will see many other benefits from overhauling the switch.
Make SURE you only disassemble the SWITCH part of the ignition switch under the green cover. Its the ONLY part that wears and requires attention
New Delco switch (without the key cylinder) is about $55 on Amazon.
After having less than 100% success with the rebuild process, I have had others with cars I work on purchase new switches. I have a new one on the shelf for when mine starts acting up.
Thanks for checking in, if I mangle um both ill go new at that point. Like to tinker with the car, so it's main reason I'm tryin it out. Thanks for the info
