Hi all, New to the Forum. I hope someone here can help. I have a 1997 Corvette in need of a PCM Part # 16232148. Tried sending mine out for repair to a company in ILL.(SIA), they said it needs a transmission chip and could not get it. I have been looking on the web for weeks and I did find one used in a salvage yard and that also is NG. Anyone out there can help I would be much appreciated. Thanks
Have a 1997 corvette too and my PCM went bad last summer . The garage I sent it to was able to find me on on eBay . It cost me 800 dollars though . There is also several threads here on how to switch to a newer model PCM .
Thanks Lettleed I have seen that post. Has anybody on here actually installed a later model PCM into a 1997? And what does it entail? Does it work without causing any other problems? I know a lot of questions just trying to get my ride running.
Thanks akapounder, Doug is the man who told me my used PCM is NG. I'm about to send him the PCM from the car, Chevrolet Dealer in Cape Coral FL said that it is NG after seven days looking at the car. That's when I sent the PCM to SIA in ILL who also said it was not fixable but Doug thinks they maybe wrong. So I will let him check it out. In the meantime I need to locate another PCM. I do believe the one that came out of the car is NG. Thanks 8VETTE7 I just read it. Excellent information. If I can't find a replacement PCM I will have to try to re-pin and install a later model PCM.
I've fixed a few 97-98 ecms. Depends on how far gone it is. Most of the time it is because the flash chip is corrupt and won't communicate with the outside world using HP Tuners or EFILive. Some of them have a blown capacitor. If all else fails send them to me and I'll see if I can help you out.
