I think my rotors are 'warped' (or whatever you want to call it... the car shudders when I brake in a fashion that I usually associate with 'warping'), and was wondering what yall recommend for replacements. OEM? Baer? PepBoys special?
I do some autocrossing, and I will do just one road event this year so I want replacements that are up to the task.
The most recent issue of Car & Driver included an article on aftermarket brake kits (including rotors). Even though the car used in the test was a Suburu WRX, I'm guessing the comparative performance (among the different kits) should be similar to those for C5s.
Buy some of the GM performance rotors from Ken Fitchner and then find a local shop that will Cryo treat then. Probably the least expensive solution. They cryo treating will make them last forever.
Depends what you use the car for, if it's track use then it's a throw away part, if you use it for normal driving not cooking the rotors then the stock should be considered because of price, as far as cryo there some people out there who would argue about them being better for agressive use due to the uncryoing efect of the rotor when it reaches high temperature.
Thanks for the input. I'm not very serious about road racing, I just happen to be going to a "driver's day" in a couple of months. Mostly I need them for street use, but don't want something that couldn't handle a few autox's. Price is definately issue (all the forum vendors keep taking my money!!) so maybe I'll look at GMPP rotors. But the Baers DO look nice :)
Check out Tire Rack's website. I saw on there where they had some EBC slotted and dimpled rotors front and rear for the C5 for about 500 bucks and EBC pads for about 160 or so. You can get all new brakes and rotors for 700 bucks shipped to your door. I would personally stay away from crossdrilled rotors. They will not only warp, but crack too! It seems to me that the EBC's are a good deal, how they'll hold up is another story.
Good Question! I guess the author is saying that rotors don't really warp. But it can't be good to spray water on your hot rotors, could it cause them to crack?
Question: If rotors don't actually 'warp', as per that often quoted article, why is spraying cold water on hot rotors a problem?

EBC's slotted and dimpled rotors seem to be the hot ticket
The dimples and slots release the gas pressure without the cracking associated with drill rotors.

Re: New rotor recommendations? (deeb0)
I had the same thing....got 25K on the car. Just took it into the dealer for the first time and this was one of the issues. They covered it under warranty. Not only did they turn the front rotors, they turned the rears and put on new pads all the way around....all under warranty....no more wobble and I was very pleasantly surprised by this service.
