I currently have a single din stereo with the appropriate bezel or whatever its called. I know these things came with a 1.5 din radio which is dumb. So what stereo options have you used? I hate the look of the single din radio, it sticks out and doesn't look factory. I want a clean factory look, and still have an after market radio. Does anyone make a 1.5 din radio, i cant find one? I found a place online that will modify your bezel to house a double din radio, but it requires moving some riveted mounts and trusting someone to do a quality job modifying the bezel. Price with a Pioneer stereo is around $850. Please reply with idea, and photos of your setup.
For an actual 1.5 DIN radio, there are basically 4 options from remotely recognizable brands. Three of them are marine head units, two from Pyle and one from Boss. The last is an incredibly 80's GM style unit from Retrosound. Only the Retrosound has Bluetooth, so if that's a factor...
There is an alternate bezel for your single DIN you might consider, if you want an equalizer in dash; the Metra 99-3900. It raises the radio to the top of the surround and has an slot below it where you can install an EQ or a pocket.

My suggestion: get in touch with Dennis at Double D Mods. He is very knowledgeable about aftermarket stereo options on Corvettes and can set you up with a killer system that meets your budget requirements.
use the stock deck and a pac adapter, push that through an actual pre amp and then use the amp and speakers of your choice. the only deck that actually looks correct in the hole is the factory one. will also cost you a lot less than modded bezels and higher end decks. with an actual pre amp / eq the SQ is actually pretty good especially if you spend the lions share of your money on speakers. you can order morel direct from a few sellers in isreal which is where they are made. prices are better than anyone in the US. amps you can often find used at great deals. i pulled a JL 300/4v2 for $200 last year creative audio even has refurb 300/4v3s for 349 with free shipping, authorized dealer too
the factory deck does have limitations but the cosmetics are unbeatable.
SOLD SOLD
I have a perfect condition black double din bezel for sale manufactured by Dennis at Double D Mods if you are interested. Pulled it from my car last week. I'm "average" on the mechanically inclined scale but was able to install it. It's pretty straightforward.
PM for details/picts if interested.

Do you have the 12 disc CD Changer in the back? And how much of an audiophile are you? On a scale of 1 to 10... 10 having a 15" sub and 1000 watts of amp to power a full on ear blasting crystal clear system... or 1 being the stock Bose system...
I play guitar and I'm pretty pick about the quality of music so, the factory Bose system was NOT acceptable... I called Dennis and upgraded the factory speakers... then added the Peripheral PXDP PXHGM2 Chevrolet Corvette 97-04 iPod Adapter KIT, I also bought an Aluratek 30 Pin Bluetooth Audio Receiver for iPhone Dock
So, now I have lots of options for good clear music to play through my factory head unit... it's probably a 3 or 4...maybe even a 5, it really cleaned up the sound, could use some more bass, and I need to do some sound deadning in the rear of the car... I think that will help...but, for the MONEY I am satisfied with the results.
I listen to ALL kinds of music so the factory preset EQ's help with each song to bring out what I am listening for...
Inside the console
Or if you want to plug in the Ipod and or another device you can run the cable under the lid of the console...

Unless you are dead set against a modified double din bezel, you are limited with what will fit in the stock 1.5 din bezel as noted above. The move to the double din opens up a whole host of opportunities again as noted above, to fit your level of desire. I am pretty much tone deaf so my move to a double din was purely to gain an in dash NAV system with an adequate size screen. The added benefit of stereo quality, with upgraded speakers is more for my passenger, but seems to be appreciated. Dennis at Double D mods is your go to guy for info.
