Hi, I am looking for info on the factory allowance on body part gaps. I have a 1999 Corvette conv. that was rear ended and now all my body panels have shifted. The insurance company says that all corvette panels are out of line and they come from the factory that way....I know this car had even gaps on all panels before the accident..any help is greatly appreciated... thanks....
Your insurance adjuster is either misinformed, smoking crack, trying to short change you or all three!
There's an entire section in the Service manual on body work and panel, door, window, glass and body alignment.
I'm droppen the Bull Crap flag on his ***! At the Bowling Green Factory every body panel gap was measured and adjusted if necessary to achieve the proper min / max spec before it left the line. Granted, the gaps are not as close as some metal cars but, they are straight and uniform.
I watched them do it on C5 and C6 cars on the assembly line on NUMEROUS OCCASIONS!
When I get home I will pull out the manual and see exactly where its at and what it says.

If you could post the pages on gapping it would be much appreciated. I'm going to start doing paint correction on my car soon, and want to regap the panels that have shifted as well. Can't find my set of manuals since the last move

OK,,, I looked in the 98 service manual and there isnt much on panel alignment. The only spec I saw was for the rear hatch window to roof bow spcifiying a 7mm gap.
Which gaps are wrong and how bad ar they?
I woukd go to a local body shop and see what the mechanic says about C5 body panel alignment and see if they have any other documetation.
