I have got to the point I really don't like going off in the vette due to the noisy fuel pump. Maybe I just pay more attention to it or it really is getting noisier. Seems to change pitch in sounds when you stop at lights. Is there anything to do to help this without a complet change out? I hear this is somewhat a common problem.

My 01 isn't noisy at all after initial start up I don't ever hear it. Yours may be fixing to go out, not sure. IF it bothered me to the point of not wanting to drive it, I would have it changed out. Good luck with fix

My pump makes no noticeable noise on my '01 either. The initial noise when it pressurizes is there but after that there's nothing. I'd agree you may want to think about changing it out.

LOL!! As I was reading your post,, I wondered what year C5 you had. SO,,, before I read the entire post, I looked up your profile.

You have a 97. I purchased my 98 new off the lot. From day ONE, the Fuel Pump noise was enough to make you want to turn the damn car off!! My wife was especially annoyed by it. In fact, she was the one that took it in and bitched about it!

GM Had a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) about that very issue.

It affected 97 & 98 C5s. It basically stated: If the owner complained about it, replace the pump with a 99 and newer pump. I had mine done very early in ownership and PROBLEM SOLVED!

A TSB is only accomplished in the Warranty Period for free or as a paid by the owner if you want it done outside the warranty.

The fix is a fuel pump replacement with 99+ fuel pump parts. Looks like yours never had the TSB done.

You are correct that I missed it. I guess now I am paying for not getting it done.

About 35 to 40K I guess but good point. Easy enough to change and probably could use it even if it don't help reduce
the sound.
