Stopped at my local gas station and filled-up. Started the eng up and got the warning saying service eng soon. Hit reset button to see the digital readout. It looks like this: "Oil Press XXX"
Checked the analog gauge and it's at zero.
Shut it off after less than 10 secs run time.
Pull dipstick and it's full.
Started eng again and revved it a little (abt 2k rpm). Mechanical gauge got up to abt 40 psi then quickly dropped off again to zero. Shut off eng after abt 5 secs.
I was only abt 1 mile from home but I didn't want to risk it. Called a flat-bed tow truck and now it's in my shop.
Eng has 110K easy miles and has never been raced or taken apart (other than removing the intake abt a year ago). Been running Valvoline full synthetic and changing it when computer says it's getting close. Eng sounds fine. No weird noises at all.
Are there 2 oil press sensors? One for the analog gauge and a separate one for the digital readout? I know there's one behind the intake. I've replaced it twice due to leakage.
pushrod v8s give you a BIG warning if you do indeed have no or low oil pressure. you will hear what sounds like a box of marbles rattling. the lifters can't operate without oil pressure and you will hear clanging like no other
