Default Tire Re learn

I have been getting the "service tire pressure" message lately so I ordered a magnet to fit around the valve stem. Genius... NOT
I received the magnet and to my surprise it does not fit in between the space on my rim to go all the way to the bottom of the valve.

I'm sure I'm not the only one to have this happen to them. I dont mind hitting the reset button when I turn the car on but......

Anyone have a work around?

Thanks in advance.....

Actually, the body of the sensor sets inside close to the barrel of the wheel. So you should be able to put the magnet behind the valve stem on the wheel and get it to work. You may have to rotate if a front is near the caliper.

You usually get that when the batteries in the sensors gets weak. Then you need to either replace the batteries or buy new ones. Replacing the batteries is described on the forum.

Here is a picture of a pressure sensor mounted on a C5 Rim/ as you can see,, the actual BODY of the sensor where the magnet need to infulance is behind the valve stem. Just put the magnet on the rim where the sensor body sits:

NOTE! The mounted sensor is a 2001+ sensor

An early sensor looks like this:

Thanks for the suggestions. I just want to be clear that the tires are on the rims...

I should try from the back of the tires?

Rest the magnet on the barrel of the wheel (the aluminum cylinder of the wheel) right behind the valve stem. And yes the tires are mounted on the wheels, wheels mounted on the car. The reason Bill put a photo in was to help you see the sensor location and to show how close it is to the wheel of the barrel.

If the sensor is old (6 years or more) there is a good chance that the battery is going. I just replaced mine again on my 2001. The sensors are now size of a quarter, really small compared to the originals. Just replace them.

Default Update

Ok, so I had another go at this today. This time I used a VT5 and nothing.
Does this mean that the battery in my TPS sensors are dead?

Thanks

The VT5 (I believe) is for the newer TPS that interface with radio frequency programmers.

The C5 TPS uses a magnet to trip a reed switch and that reed switch turns on the TPS so the RFA can read the signal and name code to know what position it is (program sequence)

We also MUST enter the TPM Program routine into the IPC for the TPMs to be registered into the system.

Read the description of what the VT5 does:

A VTS does not have a magnet. Won't work on a C5. If a magnet is not working, either your TPS's in the wheels are dead, or the receiver is.

If none of them program with a magnet, you might have a dead receiver. I think there is a code for a dead receiver in the RFA section of your DIC code reader in the car. So you should have a code come up on your DIC under RFA.

This one has a magnet in one end and the RF programmer for the later tools in the other end. Pricey, but works.

A magnet like this should work.

Ceramic Magnets C8 Dia 3"X0.5" Hard Ferrite Magnets 2-Count: Industrial Rare Earth Magnets: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific Ceramic Magnets C8 Dia 3"X0.5" Hard Ferrite Magnets 2-Count: Industrial Rare Earth Magnets: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

I use a 1"x2"x4" ceramic magnet. I just hold it in by the valve stem and the sensor programs. I bet it can activate the sensor from 2" away.

Just stick those together to make a 1" thick magnet and wave around just over or behind the valve stem.
