This afternoon we took the Vette out. Has been running well since last glitch fixed with forum help. Stopped for lunch - went to start it and just died. Security light stayed on. Tried removing the key and inserting - nothing. Nothing! Went to owners manual under security light. Indicated potential problem with security system. Sat there then tried again several times - finally light out - car started. No further problems. What should I look for? What should I do to fix the "problem". Today was in a parking lot. For me this is a major problem - often have road trips to barren woods - just me and bulwinkle - no cell service. Any help appreciated - thank you in advance!
This deals with the VATS system. The little CHIP in the key is a resistor at a very specific resistance. When you put the KEY into the ignition, there is a small metal CAN at the end of the ignition key cylinder and it has metal contact inside it that connect to the key chip.
That sensor is connected to the BCM where the key chip resistance value is compared to the value storred inside the BCM.
Fore some reason, your chip didnt read or read the wrong value. Clean the little metal contacts on the key first.
Next would be to order a new key cylinder with the sensor and have a lock smith rekey it to your OEM key.
