My name is Kevin and I'm a brand new member here. I just bought my first Corvette after wanting one since childhood. Possible mid-life crisis in the works, but I digress. I learned about this site through Google if you're interested in how new members find you.
I bought an Electron Blue 2002 over the weekend from what I think is a very reputable dealership called Corvette Warehouse in Dallas. The car is in great shape from what I can tell but I have a concern with the check engine light. I went online and learned how to read the diagnostic codes and the one that I'm getting is >>>> 10 PCM P0160 Circuit Insufficient Activity Bank 2 Sensor 2. Could anyone tell me what on Earth that means and if it is something that needs to be taken care of immediately?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is not my every day car so I won't depend on it for transportation in the event that it needs to go in for repairs although it will be a real bummer to have only had it for 5 days before having to take it in.
Thanks in advance from an excited (and nervous) Corvette owner.
Hi Kevin, I'm not sure what the code means but wanted to say Congratulations and best of luck with the new ride. I'm sure someone will chime in shortly and help you with this code.
Thanks a bunch !! Yeah, I always said when I finally get my Vette, it HAS to be Red, White or Yellow. No substitutions. THEN I came across this amazing color of blue and had to have it. I was almost sold on a silver 50th Anniversary convertible and then this showed up at Corvette Warehouse and I had to have it. Her picture is still on their website but it's a "photos coming soon" image because I jumped on it before they could even give it the photoshoot.
By the way, if you want to see some really great photography, visit Corvette Warehouse (Dallas) website. They do about 80 photos of each car they get. Really impressive.
Kevin, welcome to the Corvette Forum, I think you will find it helpful in many ways. As for the code, it could be identifying a very simple issue or lead to extensive repairs, depending...
As mentioned above it could be as simple as clearing the code and not having it return. Not very likely, but possible. It could also be a bad O2 sensor and just need to be replaced, more likely and still not very expensive. On the other hand if your car has some extensive modifications, it could lead to extensive repairs to bring it back into compliance.
I would pull all the codes, write them down and post them here, including any suffixes, such as H (historical) or C (current). It will give folks here a better idea of the real nature of the problem and make it easier for them to assist you.
If this is the only code, and the mods are not extensive, I would then contact the seller and ask them for guidance. They should be able and willing under the circumstances to correct the problem. If they are not close by, they should at least authorize you to have diagnostics run to see what exactly is the problem.
In the meantime a bit more info on the car would also be helpful. A list of known mods, mileage, gearbox, etc. It is very likely nothing more than a bad O2 sensor, so don't borrow trouble until you have more information.
The only mods that the car has is an aftermarket amp and woofer in the hatchback, of which I've not heard yet being as Corvette Warehouse replaced all of the carpet for me but the carpet installers somehow unplugged or frayed a wire around the passenger seat foot board. Appointment on Saturday to have Geek Squad find the issue. I took some advice from here and simply cleared out the code and it didn't come back. I got the car on Christmas Eve but have only driven it a total of 51 miles due to my work schedule. I won't be able to open her up until Thursday and I'm sure as hell not going out on N.Y.E. amateur night. I also got a code with a "C" beside it for a low tire pressure on the drivers side. Our Mini Cooper does the same thing and no matter how much or little air you put into it, the damn thing lights up anyway so we have learned to ignore it altogether.
I really appreciate the helpful suggestions. I can't believe a large community such as this can be so personable and welcoming. I'm glad I came here.
Kevin
P.S. - Forgot to add, I'm taking it in Saturday after the stereo issue is fixed and have them look at and/or replace the sensor. Not taking any chances.

Bank 2 sensor 2 is the passenger side O2 sensor after the Cat Converter. It is there to tell you the Cat is not working properly. The fact that it set a code could be many things, so re-setting to see if it comes back was a good first step. However, it will take a couple of cold starts and drives to reset if there is still an issue. If you pulled the codes on the DIC and there wasn't any codes after a cold start and some driving, then you may be OK.
I would try to contact the prior owner through the VIN if you can and see if there are any mods to the car. That will help diagnosing the code and any future codes.
Just a thought but maybe run a can of seafoam through it with a fresh tank of gas.. Some high way miles, all you can stand lol...helped mine. It had been sitting for several years.. Good looking vette, hope ya have many years of fun
with it......

Congratulations Kevin. I am also a recent first time Corvette owner. I am still in awe from the hospitality and help I have received from this forum. Enjoy the ride and stay in touch as we learn together. Tom M
Car obviously (pictures) has an aftermarket cat back exhaust so perhaps you are not familiar with what a truely stock car came with???
LOL - I really am a novice. I don't even know what a Cat Back Exhaust is. Is that what makes this car so loud? When I start it in the garage, it shakes all the windows on the second floor of the house. Sounds like a gigantic Harley being revved up.

Yes, but that might only be part of it. No CATS and headers will be louder still.
Can you shoot a photo of under the hood and under the car an post them? That might answer some questions for you.
