About to dive in to change my plugs and wires on 00 coupe with 105K miles. Anticipating trouble and can't find a good shortcut vid on YouTube. Looking for best tips on style and tools before I mangle my paws and break a windshield with a flying ratchet. New Plugs and wires on the way from SDPC. Hep me please!
I just did it, though I had the intake off. I decided to remove the alt, and all the lines around the plugs. If I have to do it again I'll prob take of the alt again. It seems to give me a lot more room to move the wrench. I did all them with a spark plug socket, 3" extention (on a few I added a 1 inch also) and a snap on flex head 80 tooth wrachet. Best wrachet ever
The plug wires were the hardest part for me, I was being careful and still broke 2 but I was going to replace anyway. I found my 90* needle nose to be very helpful on the boots I could get a good grip on and wiggle lose.
Oh don't do what I did and break the coolant temp sensor on the front of the head, ds.
Best thing I did was buy the Snap-on spark plug socket that has a ball joint. I bought it for the Vette when it was still stock with the cast iron manifolds so #7 was a bear to get out. I have since used that socket everywhere so it was well worth the investment because it is expensive. Last time I used it was on my 3.6 V6 Malibu spark plugs. The three rears can't even be seen and most guys remove the intake. That socket allowed me to remove without any motor disassembly, only removal of a couple of vacuum lines.
