Default Special Grind Cam

Hey Guys,

I have a 2004 Z-06. cam swap along with stock head work, plus other work. I don't understand the secret cam grind. I requested the specs, and for some strange reason I get nothing in return. Not to bore you, but I paid for the part and labor It's mine. THE. It's not area 51 info. And what I can't swallow is you can go on someone like Lingerfelter, and other top performance people and it's right there on there web page. Am I missing something here? Well back to my question. I would like to go a little more aggressive on the cam, and not knowing what the current cam specs are. I don't want to put back a cam to similar to what I already have. I think they could measure the lobs for some feedback. Again time is money for the mechanic, I don't think I should have to endure that. By the way I had my stock pistons notched, at an added coast, in the event I wanted to kick up the cam at a later date. I know, not knowing my current cam specs, makes it difficult to ask the question does anyone have any suggestions with there own personal experience with any cams.

I agree with you.... I refuse to do business with a company that will not give me specs for what i pay for. You should be able to have the cam measured to find out ist profile.. Its stupid that they will not give specs for custom cams..

I understand if a company wants to have a custom cam made and not want the specs out there for the competition to copy, but they are making it a pain for you who bought the cam if you are upgrading it to something else you may have to pull it and have it measured.

Tuners do the same thing and LOCK the ECU of the customers car and make it not accessible for anyone else to "Protect Their Tuning"... once again... My ECU, My car dont lock it. I had it done to me on a car and the car was sold out of town, the guy had to replace the ECU and have it flashed back to stock just to have it re tuned.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you RedZMonte,
Someone I could relate to, and Vice versa. I thought it was me, just being critical. If you want to sell your car, and the buyer should ask you for that info, and you can't provide it, it might hinder the sale. Thanks

I would call the company. I've never seen a company not give you specs on a cam you've purchased. A lot of custom grinders don't want to publish their specs but once you buy their cam you get the specs. If you've gotten NOTHING maybe they don't know your a paying customer.

Probably easier and definitely quicker to pull a valve cover and measure with a degree wheel and runout gauge.

Thank you for your time. It was the performance shop that ordered the custom secret grind cam from comp, and installed it, with the other mods.

True. Still a lot of work and requires knowledge of the process.

Thank you for your reply. If you please read my post, it's a Comp cam, and the performance shop did the purchase and install, along with some other mods.

Thanks,
Bill

Do you have, or can you get, a Comp part number for the cam?

If you were to pull the cam I bet you'd find a part number hand written with permanent marker on the back end of it like I did when I pulled the Comp cam in my car. From that I was able to determine its specs.

Default Special Grind Cam

I found out The specs on the cam.

234 degrees @ 0.50" duration intake
240 degrees @0.50" duration exhaust

116 LSA

The Lift is:
0.598" intake
0.608" exhaust

How aggressive is this CAM On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being most aggressive?

The 116 will really tame down any cam. I don't believe in more than 112.

It should idle fairly well but it won't wake up until I'd guess around 4500-5000 rpm and pull well past 7000.

Thanks. If my red line is 6800 how will it still pull past that?
