Default X-pipe Selection

My new to my '04 Vert has two splits on the right side midpipes, appears to be along the pipe seam, so I was thinking of just replacing both sides with an X pipe and then go to Z06 Ti mufflers.

I have the mufflers, but have been trying to find an X pipe that is not polished stainless steel...so far that is all I can find.

Does anyone make an X pipe that is not SS....just the same as the stock piping?? I really do not need polished SS...not something that shows unless the car is on a lift or something.

Appreciate any leads.....

I ran a Bassani X-pipe on my '00 and if I recall correctly, it was not polished SS.

Do a search on something like Summit for an aluminized tube X, they may have one. But the SS units are pretty darn cheap. The hardest part is getting all the pieces to fit together.

Looked into the Bassani X pipe (#5797X) and some vendors say "Not Available", other say nothing, but have not attempted to order one.

I think the Bassani 5797X will fit the stock setup....but not sure. Have been looking at the X pipe from West Coast Corvettes and they state...will fit stock setup, just requires cutting...don't they all....

As far as being "pretty darn cheap"....$230 and up for an X pipe seems quite high to me...of course these are all SS....which I do not want.

I was thinking more on the lines of $100-$125 for an X pipe in non-SS.

Apparantly that just does not exist unless I want to try to piece something together...which I do not.

SweetThunder has one but deletes the cats....that is not going to work for me.

Thanks....will keep looking.

I understand that you don't want SS but, I don't fully grasp why. Stainless steel is not just for esthetics. It won't rust! Why would you not want that even though you can't see it?

You will have a very hard time finding an X-pipe not SS for the simple fact that no one wants one.

Understand that SS will not rust, but the remaining sections of the OEM exhaust piping will....unless I replace with SS headers.

Only real reason for not wanting a SS X pipe is cost.

Any you are also correct, doubt I will find one.

I was always under the impression that the stock midpipe and catback sections of the exhaust are actually SS. Just not polished or a very high grade. I may be wrong. Someone will probably chime in with the answer.

All mid pipes are identical; 2 1/2" aluminized steel. Z06 rear section only is titanium.

Have looked more into the Bassani X pipe; appears they have two, the 5797X and their BX5797X. The first one is made from aluminized steel, the other is a composite and is a little less expensive.

I am curious about this BX model....anyone happen to have it? Does it fit, hold-up, problems, etc??????

You do understand that you still use the front half of the stock H-pipe, correct? Unless you are buying LT headers and X-pipe as a package the x pipe you are buying is to replace the rear half of the stock H-pipe and will mate to the stock SS mufflers or the Z06 Ti mufflers.

Depending where the splits are in your H-pipe you may not be able to use this type of X pipe. Bassani has a good picture of the X-pipe mounted on the vehicle. You can get a pretty good idea of where the X-pipe clamps to the stock pipe.

I had the SS version 5797X with a used set of stock Z06 Ti mufflers until I changed it out for a Corsa Ti system. I had no problems with fitment but you must measure carefully (and twice) before you cut your stock H-pipe.
I have no experience with the BX5797X aluminized steel version, but Bassani makes a quality product. If I was on a budget I wouldn't have a problem using the BX version.
