Transmission and differential service on and 08 A6 and a 00 A4. Trying to get a gauge for me and my brothers rides. Dealer quoted almost $400....does this seem right? I still overseas and my hands are tied.
That price is for the trans and diff for each one, so roughly $400 per vehicle. I wouldn't necessarily say high miles, the A4 has 62k and the A6 a tad over 50k.

That price is crazy. I can only provide my experience with 6 Speed.
Last week I found a local mechanic that leases space at a gas station. He only charged me $45.00 to drain and refill my transmission 3.8 qts and rear diff. which took just under 2 qts. I provided the fluids which I bought at autozone. I believe my spend for the fluids was approx. $60. With it being a weekend cruiser, I did not think it necessary to pay for premium fluids like royal purple etc. So my total spend was around $105 and the mechanic did a good job.
PS: Even if your rear diff gear oil has the limited diff additive, I opted to add about 3 ozs of GM diff additive.
I paid around $350 for A4 trans fluid, filter and diff fluid plus labor. Think the GM kif for trans fluid and filter is close to $100 when I did mine last year.
BTW see your Durham location- great shop in Apex called GMP, 2 former Hendrick Chevy dealers that love vettes. Had them go over my car and do exhaust, trans and rear fluids after purchase.
Thanks for the input fellas. I'm overseas and my brother is taking of my ride. He just picked up a C5 for himself. I will have him check the shop in Apex out.
Keep in mind the Auto cars are a different animal when it comes to changing fluids compared to the Manual. Hello my NC people
Would be nice if the people from Raleigh Durham area could get together and just talk cars. I'm sure I would learn a lot from others. I'm very new to Corvette.
Unless the shop ABSOFUC%INGLOOTY knows C5/C6 Automatic Transmissions and how to PROPERLY service them (refill them properly) It could cost you a TON of money!
The refill procedure is WAY DIFFERENT THAN ANYTHING you have ever seen anywhere!
If the A4 and A6 cars have a lot of miles on them be sure that they do not power flush the automatic transmissions.
This has been known to cause transmission failure with higher mile automatic transmission.
Hope this helps.
My local Chevy garage charges 189.00 for a transmission service. If that is for both cars it does not sound out of line to me.
That's why you put the return line in a bucket, change the filter/overfill 2qt, and idle the motor letting it drain a gallon at a time (which you replace each time). No blown high mileage transmissions this way. I did it to my truck with over 200k and the wifemobile around 180k. Both stay nice and cherry red now unlike after a filter change and refill. Those first couple gallons that come out will be dark, then all of a sudden it looks like you're wasting fluid.
Thanks again fellas! What's the consensus on letting another shop drain and fill the rear end? Is it as delicate as the trans? I will save the trans for the stealership.
As far as a meet of RDU folks, I'm all in but im only home a few weeks every year. Overseas AD Air Force. My brother is local and i'm sure he is eager to get in the mix.
Have I met you Before? You ever come to Knightdale NC? Just curious.
I don't believe so brother. Unless we happened to cross paths at RPM in Garner or Carolina Automasters in Durham. I have hit a few flea markets in Fuquay and Smithfield....can't recall anytime in Knightdale.

The differential is a straight drain and refill. I would think any reputable shop could do this just fine.

Ah Ok. I met two cool guys in Knightdale a while back that had a C5 and C6. Figured it might be you. But yeah just be careful about that transmission unless you want your transmission replaced lol.
Well I am hoping the GMP guys in Apex did the trans and rear diff fluids correctly...I did about 4000 miles no issues so far!
For the NC guys there is a pretty good turnout for Wake Forest cars and coffee 4th Saturday morning at the Lowes supermarket lot on Jones Dairy and 98.
