Default "Active handling warming up" error

I have a 99 and I tried searching for this on the forum but for some reason could not find it. I get the Active handling warming up error on the dash and when I press the reset button it goes away but the idiot light stays on the dash. I have been told this is an issue with the ECBM (Electronic brake control module). Since this part is not made anymore they are asking some pretty high numbers for the used one when you can find them.

My questions are these:
Has anyone eliminated this issue by going through the ground connections and cleaning/repairing them?

I have seen ads on Ebay claiming they can rebuild my EBCM anywhere from $59-200 bucks. Has anyone sent theirs in for rebuild and how did it work?

Any other solutions for this besides pressing the reset button every time I start driving the car?

Thanks,

I'm not clear on what the error message reads. Does it just say "active handling warming up" - if so, it's not an error. Please post the actual DIC message.

8VETTE7 is correct... We can speculate all day and cost you LOTS of cash in parts when it could be something very simple. READ AND POST the DTCs

Active Handling Warming Up ERROR (stays ON) means that the EBTCM has not or CAN NOT complete its INTERNAL SELF TEST. It performs this test at each KEY ON...

That is why is IMPORTANT to read DTCs in the DIC "BEFORE YOU TURN THE KEY OFF"

Read and post the DTCs

Also, under what conditions does this occur? If just after starting and you are driving slow (long driveway maybe), it could be normal.

Ok so I ran through the codes and these are what came up:
28-TCS
C1283 H

AO-LDCM
B2282 H
B2284 H
B2264 H
U1064 H

A1-RDCM
B2283 H
B2285 H
B2265 H
U1064 H

A6-SCM
B0851 H
B2605 H
U1016 H
U1064 H

BO-RFA
U1255 H
U1096 H
U1064 H
U1016 H
C2110 H
C2115 H

Then I cleared all the codes and this is what I found after taking it for a 20 mile drive:
After passing 18 miles an hour I get "ACT HNDLG WARMING UP" which goes away after hitting reset and comes up randomly once in a while after that.

These are the codes:
BO-RFA
U1096 H
U1064 H
U1016H

This is what I would do... Turn the ignition ON (ENG OFF) Clear ALL the DTCs.

Start the engine and read the DTCs. Post any that pop up after start and run.

IF/When the EBTCM displays the warm up message, PRESS RESET until it goes out and then read the DTCs.

If something is wrong at self test, it may throw up a DTC.

I could be wrong, but this is what I seem to recall......

If you start the car up, and the steering wheel isn't in the "straight ahead" position, you'll get this message. Back when I was still working full time, there was this one particular parking spot in the lot, that I used to park in because nobody could park on either side of me (natural barriers). However, I usually drove into this spot at a slight angle, so the wheel wasn't dead straight when I shut it down, and subsequently started it up.

That was the only time I'd get that message, and it always went away by the time I was out of the parking lot.

See if your steering wheel is DEAD NUTS CENTERED when you are driving straight ahead on a flat level road.

There is a MICROPROCESSOR inside the EBTCM. It controls EVERYTHING that is brake and traction related. It uses MULTIPLE Sensors to collect data and processes that data to properly control AH, Antilock brakes and TC. It also does self test and power management task.

The EBTCM also communicates with the BCM, PCM and RTD Module (if you have one) via the serial data buss.

Just for ****$ / GRINS and, the hell of it, try this. To the LEFT of the BCM are two thin connectors. They are the serial data STAR Connectors. Find the one with FOUR wires and pop the shorting bar off the TOP of the plug. See if you still have the issue at the same speed while its disconnected. If it doesn't make any difference, put it back together.

Next check Module Power and ground
with the KEY ON.. Should see FULL BATTERY voltage on all he fuses.

When / if the Processor has issues,, its a DONE DEAL. Nothing that you can do about it of the processor is not happy!

Late Model EBTCM

This is a 97/98 Rear mounted EBTCM Schematic. Use it to examine the power inputs. Your grounds will be same as late model schematic.
