I'm wanting to make my 99 c5 hook better at the strip and not wanting to pay 3k for coil over setup. So my question is, has Anybody ever put a newer model composite spring on a c5 and will it help make it hook?

Don't think the spring is going to help you. Coilovers plus correct tires will do more than anything else. There are some excellent dual adjustable coilovers for less than $1300. Add some tall, sticky tires into the mess and you'll hook...

The front springs from a C6 would fit a C5 but not the back.

Now Hyperco does make a stiffer spring for the car, but again that isn't going to do what a coil over does. It is going to need a better spring to match.

It is one of those things, if you want something to work correctly you do get what you pay for. That being said we do offer our GT2's just under $2k, and the custom built G2's for less than $3k and have been proven time and time again as the best bang for the buck you can get.

I'll be more than happy to help in any way if you have any questions.

--EDIT--

Just saw you were looking at the strip too.

That being said, I agree with Bill. How much HP and what tire is on it now? Drag cars, a tire is going to be one of the most important things.

MAKING YOUR CAR HOOK BETTER,,,,,,,,,,, Is a whole lot more than doing ONE THING!

What issues are you having specifically with traction at the track????

What have you done to the car so far?

What power are you at with the engine?

What tires do you have AT THE TRACK?

What is you budget?

Thanks everybody. 525 rwhp. Just have street tires right now. Just figured if I had a softer rear suspension it would hook better.

Not really... You need a SUSPENSION that properly CONTROLS THE SPRING and wheel. It also needs to properly ISOLATE each wheel form the other wheels when you encounter uneven or rough surfaces.

You would think that an INDEPENDANT Front & Rear Suspension with a TRANSVERS SPRING would accomplish that effectively but you would be wrong.

The SWAYBAR controls body lean

The shocks control the spring and wheel movement

The spring supports the weight of the vehicle and allows for wheel movement and returns the vehicle to proper vehicle support height.

You need A ARM Bushings that resist deflection.

There are entire books written on this very subject.

Could I raise the front a inch or so to transfer weight more to make it hook better?

You don't want to spend a lot of time lifting the front of the car. That is wasted energy that could be used pushing the car forward, not up.

There are 'tricks' you can do like pulling the front sway bar, going to a bigger rear bar. Using a softer base suspension rear spring and things of that nature if you are trying to force the car to hook on a hard tire but at the end of the day the tire is the only part of the car that makes contact with the ground and is going to be the biggest factor in traction.

You do need to make sure if you are going to stay leaf springs you have a quality shock on the car to help it control the car or you are going to get into wheel hop which can lead to not only poor performance but also wheel hop which can break things.
