2002 Corvette won't start/crank.
Recently, car has been having some issues. Parked it and covered it with a cover about a week ago (was promised heavy rain). Come back 3 days later, both windows are down (even though I am 100% sure they were closed when I covered the car), passenger side carpet is soaking wet. I dry it with paper towels, cloths, and a hair dryer overnight. Come back next morning, jump start it, works just fine. Drove it for a couple days, parked it again. Come back yesterday, passenger side carpet is wet again, I follow the same procedure but this time disconnect and take out the BCM (was afraid it would get wet). This morning I reconnected the BCM, everything is dry, car won't start. Car won't crank. Key is in 3rd position, gauges don't move, no lights, can't even pull the codes with holding down option and pressing fuel/trip 4 times. CEL is on. When I turn the key from 3rd position to try and start, nothing. No cranking, no sounds, no clicking, just dead silence. Windows and power locks work, as do headlights and radio.
Any ideas? Tried hooking up the battery to my Forester, nothing. No changes. Could it be because the computer is unhappy I disconnected the BCM?
Thanks to everyone in advance!
I would also wipe down your key good to clean it off. Have a friend who's car was very finicky if he kept his key where it could get damp. Same symptoms. Simple and no cost test.
Why do you think that?
They are named "Battery Tender" or "Battery Maintainer" for a reason.
If used properly it will really extend the life of a battery. I have been using them for over 30 years so I guess I speak from some experience. I have used them on bulldozers, backhoes, motorcycles, boats, forklifts and cars since the 80's.
I had a tractor once that I didn't use for 14 months but I could see the lights working on the maintainer and when I tried to start the tractor up it spun up like it had a brand new battery in it.
If you put a maintainer on a fully charged battery it will keep it that way for a long time. The technology has improved so much.
I place mine to where I can see the lights on them. Right now the ones I use show a one solid and one blinking light it the battery is fully charged. If I see it with both lights solid on I know something is wrong and check it out.
They are not chargers unless it says it is a charger and maintainer.
I'm sure some have failed but I have never had one go bad. They just got stolen.
Good luck!
