I have a 98 auto. just did 243 heads ls6 intake lunati cam 222l228 vararam. the car runs great except for one issue. If i`m cruising along say 45 and I accelerate hard it will downshift and start going pop pop pop. there are no other symptoms. Any ideas on a cause?

You have to be more specific is the popping in the engine or out of the exhaust? Where does it sound coming from.
If you are very lean or there are other issues with the tune, you could fry #7 so I would not drive it under the conditions it happens until you sort it out.

I forgot to say,,,,, It sounds exactly you are having a MISFIRE Situation and a cracked PLUG is just one cause of the issue. Could be A LOOSE OR DAMAGED PLUG WIRE OR A BAD COIL ect ect..
When the popping noise is happening, see if you have a flashing Check Engine Light (CEL)
After it happens, If you check the DTCs (BEFORE YOU TURN OFF THE IGNITION) you will most likely have a P-0300 misfire DTC.

I had posted something similar a few days ago, while the engine temp around 205-215 degrees, it would pop, and after checking plug wires and plugs, the passenger side plug was loose and not tight, after retightening it no more pops thru exhaust. And my motor is Forced Induction.

I like to work on my car but I am no mechanic. I just finished putting in ac delco iridium gapped at 40. the old plugs were autolites gapped at 60. one may be cracked. if it is it`s very small. but checking the wires that I put on at least 2 of the coil wires seemed loose and one plug wire I`m going to drive it now and hope for the best

It's important to make sure the connections are tight and not loose. The heat generated from the motor can cause loose connections if not properly installed.
