It seems the oem seals I bought from SDPC parts are not the same as the oem ones that are in my car. I am guessing that I now need to buy valve spring seats correct?
Man, it seems like one thing after another keeps me from completing this project.
I went through this when I had the heads rebuilt. I purchased valve stem seals and the machine shop had to furnish the right ones. The ones I purchased were listed for the car but were not right. They were Fel-Pro brand.
I have accumulated many parts for this project(C5r timing chain, comp cam, JBA headers Pac1218 springs, Oil pump, water pump, Power steering pump, Summit racing Harmonic Balancer, LS7 clutch kit. all the special tools and gaskets needed for install.
I have been staring at most of this for a couple of years now and decided to go for it. It took months for me to remove everything(Lazy), but now I am at the point where I will start to install the cam and balancer.
the parts are GM parts from Scoggins Dickey. thought I would be getting original seats but they are redesigned. I ended up just just ordering some factory style seals(Victor Reinz).
There were two seals used on the LS1, the original umbrella seal that required a separate spring seat and the later design where the spring seat was integrated with the seal. If you are running beehive springs, either will work but the earlier design requires spring seats to protect the head.

True story. I THINK all the LS6s had the one-piece, IINM.
I would go with the GM one piece design, as long as they will fit the Manley springs. Double check that. The springs prevent the seal from coming off of the guide, which has happened to a lot of guys.
