Default LS1/LS6 timing chain dampener

The timing chain dampeners I designed for the Gen III engine have been picked up by a vendor

As some of you may recall, I was building a LM4 and had the holes already drilled for a timing chain dampener but the spacing was wider than the LS2 dampeners. I didn't like my options so I spent several months designing one and working with a plastics company to choose materials.
I was put in contact with Brian Tooley by someone who liked the idea and recognized I needed an outlet. After several months of working with Brian they are listed on his site!!

This is awesome!

I bought one from you earlier, have not mounted it yet, but it appears to be a very high quality part. Wish this was available the last time I had the timing cover off!

I had mine apart a couple of years ago. Even though I wasn't having issues at the time, I replaced my harmonic damper, and since you have to remove some "stuff" to get at it, I pulled the front cover, and installed an LS2 timing chain, while I was in there. I also installed the 'Trick Flow' chain damper, with their adapter bracket, but a factory style damper would have been a "cleaner" installation........

OUTSTANDING!

TTT

If you have the OEM pre drilled dampener holes in the block,,, this is a NO BRAINER install and does make the timing chain and CAM timing much happier!!

You should post up some pictures of an installed dampener!

Question: Is there sufficient width ("thickness") to provide support for double-row chains?

Yes. Thickness is the same as an LS2 dampener and will provide plenty of support for a double roller.

Here's a stupid question since I know nothing about the hows/whys of engines. What is the purpose of this?

Two things:
1. During high rpm runs the chain has a tendency to wrap around the gears which can cause premature gear wear and chain failure

2. At sustained RPMs the chain can start to vibrate at a frequency that causes failure.

When I was doing my initial research for designing them I came across a this.

Good deal....
I had a feeling that was probably the case, but I couldn't quite tell for sure from the pics.

Good info. Chain "wrap" tendencies can become quite severe, especially on high rpm downshifts, and even more so if the downshift is unintended, i.e. missed shift (to a lower gear).

Btw, Brad is also my Amsoil dealer of choice.

So being made of plastic isn't it possible for the chain to eventually wear it down?

There is no full time contact, but over time it will eventually experience some wear, just like the factory pieces.
