Completely agree with your observations that many seem to have the problem after LMC5 install.
I have been recommending that people that people do the Brown wire mod when you install the LMC5 so you deal with the Column Lock issue once and are done with it rather than having new or continuing symptoms after you install what is supposed to be the "ultimate" fix.....
Seems like "ultimate" if it works for you first time but try again if not...
OK e/mail from Richard--Says The Brown wire connects to a diff. part of the BCM--enables to eliminate BCM Internal timing issue--Doesnt suggest doing it unless you see often--Pull Key--says its less than 1% of the many many thousands he has sold--Looks to me if you have the LMC5 and belong to this forum you are in the 1%-
Installed the LMC-5 4 years ago as a precaution. Started getting the "pull key/ wait 10 seconds" message last year. Spoke to Richard and he advised me to install a newer unit with the brown wire mod. Have not had one problem since. Also had the fuel shutoff reprogrammed to a higher value. Richard will help you anyway he can. He stands by his product

Thx for the replay--when you start the car--do you insert key and start or do you turn to on and let the dic sweep than start car?
Thx for the reply--what i dont understand--one forum member on this thread said that Richard said dont do the brown wire because it can cause other problems--ive never heard that before?? Have you or anyone heard any problems after brown wire mod? BTW i insert my key and i turn right away to start--i see no sense in turniong key first to on waiting a few seconds than start car--especially with the brown wire mod done--any ideas on that?
I know this thread is older, hopefully someone knows the answer. My '99 does this if I don't immediately turn the ignition to start. If I put the car in accessory or am too slow to get to start, the pull key wait 10 seconds deal comes up and my fuel gets cut if I get above 5 mph. Does that mean I am a candidate for the brown wire mod? If I crank her over really quick from inserting the key, most of the time the message doesn't appear. Anyone else have my problem?
Brown wire - does it bypass the resistor in the key?

does the brown wire mod Eliminate the need to have a resistor in the ignition key? -
does it bypass the ignition key theft prevention switch circuitry?
I hope that doesn’t mean you can start the car without a key? If a thief uses a paper clip like in the “movies “. I just did the LMC5 mod which stopped the steering column issue on my 2004 C5 automatic, but second time I test drove it. I STILL got the pull key message.
Apparently, keys go bad, or the ignition switch , the keys cost at least $100 a piece to make, and I bet the ignition key switch replacement is at least 500 bucks, and seems like the keys go bad every seven years or so
So I think I’m gonna do the brown wire mod so I don’t have to keep getting new ignition keys, I’m not gonna be parking often in places where I’d be concerned of theft, and if so should buy the club.
