99 coupe center (the small one) brake light is not working. How do I get to it to take it out? Do I have to buy the complete lamp or is there a bulb I can replace? The dealership said I needed the complete lamp for $105.00 but they were not sure and would look further into it. Any help here?? Thanks again!
The CHMSL (center high mount stop light) light does not have bulbs, its LED illuminated. You probably will be stuck with having to buy the light from Chevy if its really gone out. However, LEDs are very reliable and don't often go out. I'd be suspicious of the wiring or a fuse.
Wiring or fuse? How would I go about getting to the light to check the wiring? Where else would I check the wiring? Where is the fuse at to check it? Is there any way to check the LED to see if it is good? Any help would be great!! Thanks again!
I am sure the bulb can be replaced, let me go check. Maybe not, I forgot the car is not here. I need the red lens and I must purchase the whole unit. Pt # 10253893 $93.16
I also had the same problem, and it turned out to be just disconnected from the wiring harness. Another way to get at it, is to remove the backup light assembly. There are 4 screws that hold it into place. Just unscrew them and the whole assembly comes off. You might want to have another person help you, so they can hold the assembly while you disconnect the 2 reverse light bulbs. Then you can reach up and feel to see if it is connected or not. Hope this helps.
