Default so engine is out!!

So ended up pulling my motor out of my 2003 Z06 due to sound i was not really all the comfortable with, come to find out it was a broken ringland on lucky number 7. Luckily in my case it did not do any damage to my cylinder wall at all thank god!!

So been calling around to several machine shop's in my area and talking to several friends and have found a shop to do my work

My original plan was to just replace that one piston with one from brother's 2002 LS1 motor that he has and have new ring's installed and reseal the motor and call it a day...Well after talking with people and reading i have come to the term's that is a cheap fix and in the end prob. won't last long ..

So now i am going to go forged internal's to handle the supercharger output....

I just need to know what brand you all recommend and if I can use my stock rod's or if I need to upgrade those as well ??

my block number

this one has me stumped as to what it can mean?? its location is front of the block behind the PS

and i took all my fenders/bumper/hood off just to make sure they did not get damaged in the process of all of this...

as you can see i took the engine out of the top...for me it was easy..total time was about 4 hours and that is removing the drive line as well

no very little damage to the head...almost looks like it got sucked out the exhaust valve and right into the high flow cats...passenger side was in almost perfect shape ..how ever the drivers side the high flow car was all bent up...i am reusing them..they will get looked over at the machine shop as well

Funny how the reflection on cylinder wall looks like a piece is missing (of cylinder wall).
Good luck

sucks to see it was a ringland but look how clean those pistons are, gotta love meth... looks like evidence of detonation though all over the piston and it finally had enough... hard to tell but I can't see anything on the piston next to it in your pic

Boost the car is set up for 9 lbs ...but no steam ports and I am not running meth yet..Pistons were really not that dirty to start with ...it's a common problem with #7 it's important now that I know if anyone is boosted or making more power then stock to make sure you have steam ports on the rear heads..had I those and meth kit I probably would not even had to post any of this

talk it over with your builder, there are tons of different options depending on your budget... I would definitely do a set of rods and pistons and leave the crank alone and the block would be good to around 900-950, much more than that and the crank will start flexing... the weak link in the rods is the bolts and the cracked capped design is not all that great either... rpm is usually what kills the stock rod bolts so if you rev higher than stock redline or like to rap it out a lot I would definitely take care of the rods while the block is apart... personally I would rather spend a little more now and save the headache later... I would also do a set of arp head studs to help keep the heads from lifting due to the added cylinder pressure

If you are going to run a lot of boost, your ring gaps need to be a bit wider than a stock engine.. That could have contributed to your ring land issue..

I recommend adding a steam cross over to the rear of the engine. Its easy to do. Use the 2001-2004 front cross over and just flip it 180 deg. Run a rubber hose to the front and T it in.

That's what I did..

Several different companies make steam port fittings with -4AN male fittings. Buy this kit or get the fittings and make your own hoses.

Like mentioned, talk to your engine builder. Sometimes they have their own preferences and work with certain parts better than others. I would personally do rods while you are in there. They are not that expensive and you will be able to turn up the boost later if you wanted.
