Looking to get a few "second" opinions.

So I've noticed that at 127,xxx miles my 98' is drinking some oil and flashing the low oil light around 2000/2500 miles. Motor is internally stock.
**I drive my car pretty hard every time I drive it**

It smokes a little at idle and on acceleration but mostly on deceleration from high RPM's (Coming into a turn/engine braking).

I have a catch can to correct the PCV system issues though I have not upgraded to the LS6 system. My can usually doesn't have a lot of oil in it when it's time to change.

Anyway, after reading and reading I've come to the conclusion that I need check my piston rings or valve seals. I'm leaning towards valve seals since it's mostly under deceleration but I know these LS1's are prone to ring issues.

So I want to pull the motor and refresh/rebuild it with forged internals but that isn't the first option I'd like to undergo right now. My preferred option is to keep the motor in the car and do a cam setup.

In conclusion: Motor smokes on deceleration, my prediction is valve seals, I want to know what others think? Rings or valve seals?

With symptoms you have provided i would also agree with valve seals. Do the cam, springs and valve seals and see what happens.

I would do seals and a new set of valve springs. If that doesn't resolve the issue than no sense throwing in performance parts. I would do valve springs because several motor builders have shown the stock springs can't control the valves at around 80K miles and since they need to come off for seals and they are relatively inexpensive, I would refresh them at this point.

Thanks for the replies! Your input is greatly appreciated. After speaking with a few other local guys the consensus is that it may very well be valve seals. Looks like a TSP cam kit is in my future! 😬👍🏼

I suppose worst case scenario the car might sit for a month or two while rebuilding the whole motor. Not terribly bad but my Toyota Yaris is not exactly fun to drive 😂

You could do a compression test to check the rings.
