Oil filter torque?

I have been changing oil for most of my cars for the last forty years. Never torqued either the oil plug or the oil filter. Always tightened by hand the oil filter. Usually three quarter turn does the trick.

I love it when I hear this. I also started a thread about this a year ago, got the same answers, although several said they actually are able to torque thier filters to 22 ft/lbs. I read in the Factory Service manual to torque it to 22 ft/lbs. But how, there is not a hex head on the filter, and the filter remover I have that will fit on a torque wrench begins to crush the filter at about 12 ft/lbs. So I get it as tight as I can by hand.
